4300K vs 6000K HID
Was reading on another thread that the 4300K HIDs are brighter than the 6000K HIDs. I always thought the higher the temperature the bluer and brighter the bulb, but I may be mistaken. Anyone know for sure?

As the color temp goes up, the lumens go down. The difference between 4300 and 6000 isn't great but 6000 is lower.
4300k Xtreme White....... 3100Lm
6000k Diamond White..... 2900Lm
8000k Iceberg Blue......... 2500Lm
10000k Brilliant Blue....... 2300Lm
12000k Violet Purple..... ..2000Lm

4300k is brighter. Some advertise 6000k as brighter which is not correct at all.
6000k adds a small hint of blue which in my opinion looks better than 4300k.

The 6K may have more total light power but the 4.3K lights produce more visible light. Above 4.3K the higher the temp the less visible light.

4300K is the brightest light.
The K as most people know is the "heat" of the HID. The brightest light is WHITE. 4300K is WHITE, 3000k is Yellow, 6000K and higher are Blue then more Purple. Since you move down the visible spectrum.
I'm sure if you could buy 1000K lights they would be Red.
ROYGBIV for those who forget!

If you keep going higher in color temp., you will eventually end up with 'black' lights.
Looks cool on those blacklight posters in the garage but not much light.
HID's get bluer as they age, so if you have to replace just one OEM 4300K bulb, you can get a 5000K lamp that may match the old one better, in color/blueness, if that's even a word.??.

I know this thread is a year old but I found this youtube video which shows a difference between the ballast of some HID kits. It shows how the bulb color can change with different Ballast.

6K looks cool, but 4.3k (stock) works better. Looking at the light the 6K looks brighter, but on the road they are not as good as the stock lights. If you actually need lights than leave them stock. JMO

5k is a good compromise. It looks pretty much white, whereas the 4.3k has a slight yellow tint and 6k has a slight blue tint. I've had all 3, with both OEM HID and multiple aftermarket HID kits, and personally like either the 5k or 6k. I currently have 6k HID fogs in the Vette and you can really see the blue tint compared to the OEM 4.3k low beams.
