Default Battery Corrosion Washers and Mat

I'll be replacing my 2009 Coupe battery soon. I'm considering installing those felt washers around the battery posts that prevent corrosion, and the similar mat under the battery.

AFAIK, the only real downside to these items is dimensional. Some people have had problems on other cars getting their battery clamps fully seated over the washers, but my posts are about 1/4" taller than the clamps so that doesn't look like an issue.

Putting the mat under the battery might not work out so well. Of course, the battery tray is plastic and it won't corrode, but I'm not sure what is underneath that might be damaged by acid.
However, The slight additional height might cause issues with the battery hold down at the base of the battery, or it could become impossible to change the cabin air filter without removing the battery.

Any experience out there? Different years of C6 use different batteries, but I'll listen to any experiences or suggestions.

I don't think it's worth all the trouble. Just look at your posts every so often and clean as necessary.

I like the battery protector sprays, use it for all my batteries....no issues with corrosion.

I just put some on mine, but no history as yet. The battery is back out of the car and on my work bench while I do a full driveline upgrade, i.e., clutch, trans, and diff. I did notice that the post pads are kind of soggy with some kind of goop so I guess that is probably similar to the spray on stuff.

One other thing I noticed is that battery acid can get onto the hold down bolt and nut. I have a battery that is vented to the air and I assume that is how the acid got there.

I replaced the battery on my '05 the other day and added the washers. No problem and the Vette clamps are the best I've ever dealt with. Don't know about the mat. My original battery gave excellent service and never leaked - nothing.

I installed the washers on my son's 08 coupe when I installed a new Group 47 DieHard battery. No problem with the washers. I had to trim his tray and the back flange of the battery to get it to fit and lock down in that undersized tray. As someone had posted pics several weeks ago, apparently GM has used two different sized battery trays depending on which C6 year model you have. The 2008 certainly has the smaller tray. My 07 vert has the bigger tray.

I replaced the battery on my 08 vert this week and put the felt washers on because the old battery was leaking and some on the forum suggested using the washers. I'll keep an eye on it.

My 08' had some corrosion due to a small seapage at the top of the battery, and it sits a lot which can speed up the process.
I cleaned it with baking soda and water and used the spray and the pads under the terminals.
That should be enough to do the trick.
