(pics) Rebuilt My Drivers Seat Today
Hi,
I recently purchased a 2008 AO Z06 with 20,500 miles on it. The drivers seat showed a lot of wear.
Took the car over to a friends house and removed the seat and rebuilt it.
Before repair.
With the seat bottom cushion out, you can see how beat up the foam was.
My friend cut some material and we re-inforced the bottom of the seat frame. We also glued some material over the sharp edges of the aluminum frame.
We added some foam and more material to the bottom of the seat.
Put it back together and you can see the results. I'm very happy with it.

Looks great.
Did your seat make any noises before you did the rebuild? Mine is starting to creak quite a bit when I turn, accelerate, or brake (and my weight shifts). The sounds are definitely coming from inside the seat. I'm wondering if doing what you did might help.

I have a 2011 GS, 4,000 miles. Once in a while I feel something in the seat like a spring is not sitting right and it feels like the spring snaps to another position. Do you have any photos of the springs without the add material? As in your 6th picture?

Nicely done!
I did the same thing on my 09. Huge improvement. I used a rebuild kit... available from many vendors, like this one: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...-kits-jwm.html
If you decide to replace the seat bottom foam, this looks like a good upgrade: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...9-shipped.html

I expect your '11 GS is similar... reach under your seat, you should be able to feel the thin support wires directly in contact with the seat-bottom foam. You can imagine how the wires would eventually damage the foam.
Interestingly, my passenger seat already has a factory-installed pad (to protect the seat sensor):
Even though I rarely have a passenger, you can see I added some foam blocks from a rebuild kit.

The driver's seat on my 09 base model (1LT), before I upgraded it with a rebuild kit, viewed from below:

Thats for the photos!!!
I think that I may be hearing/feeling is the rubbing of that white piece of plastic in contact with the wire in the center.

Thanks Steve. Havent got to drive it as much as I've wanted as I've been super busy with work.
Yeah, I love the two tone

I had my Driver's Side repaired at the shop today and after 19,566 miles, the foam was almost split in half. Now, I weigh 189 lbs and get in and out of the Vette normally and the aluminum frame is cutting into the foam. Now that it has been rebuilt, much better and more support.
Good thing is..... I sell and install the seat kits at the shop. The seat kits can be purchased as well.

Looks good... Is anyone else surprised that the foam would chew up and come apart like that? I can understand it losing it's "sponginess" (if that's a word), but coming apart like that just seems like it must be some cheap stuff.

Once you take the seat apart, you can see how sharp the edges are on the aluminum frame. Like knives pressing against the foam as you drive. A little bit of material over the sharp edges helps a lot to avoid that continuing to happen.

I thought mine was the only one that did that. Every time I push the clutch in it creaks. At first I thought it was the clutch. Lol. Really considering adding the 2012 seats.
