Default Fuel system cleaning

Who has had the recommended 30,000 mile fuel system cleaning done?
Does treating your tank with Lucas or Chevron Techron prevent the need for this recommended service?

Recommended by who?

Your profile indicates you have a 2008. There is nothing in your owners manual maintenance schedule or additional recommended maintenance pages about a "fuel system cleaning." Further there is no "30,000 mile service interval. In increments of 25,000 miles you are asked to check the fuel system for damage or leaks.

I'm corvette waving at you from the next county.

If you've been a good owner by using top tier gasoline all this time then you really don't need to do it. But, if you'll feel better by doing it then get a bottle of the Chevron stuff or go to a Nissan dealer and get a bottle of theirs, it's about the best stuff out there. The Chevron stuff is very good also. Do NOT waste the cash on a "service" at a shop for this.

The service was recommended by the Chevy dealership while it was in for warranty work. Are you suggesting that they are recommending service that is not a standard CHEVY recommendation for our cars?

Let me be more clear then. Yes, I am. There is NO 30,000 mile fuel cleaning service required for the Corvette.

Thanks for the info.

I am glad that I chose not to have it done. I have read several time where others have had problems with there pumps and gauges which seemed to improve with a treatment. I have always used top-tier gas but was not certain that some new recommendations had not been issued since my manual was printed.

If you want to do it for piece of mind, pick up a bottle of Techron and run it through on your next fuel fill up. It is good to minimize sulfur build up on the sending unit. Top Tier gas is the best defense. Techron is a belt and suspenders approach but it won't hurt anything.

I am not having any problems and was just wondering if there had been some new recommendations that I did not hear. I will keep using the Techron and Lucas.

For the record. When I was a Tech at the Chevy dealer in Morrow, GA. Our Fuel System service was pouring in a can of the BG stuff and cleaning the throttle body with some spray and a rag. I'm sure they charged an arm and leg for it. So yes, dealers recommend services you don't necessarily "need". And not to single the Chevy dealer out, both Honda dealers, the Toyota dealer, and the Lexus dealer I currently work at all do this. Common in the business.

The Dealers really try and screw customers when ever they can, period.....This is one reason why I did not hesitate modifying my 08 at 800 miles. I will not do service work at the dealer, any dealer. I figured I was on my own anyway.

Now that I replaced both fuel level sending units, I'm doing this once a quarter (even though I exclusively run Shell or Chevron fuel)

"Top tier gas" doesn't mean much. there are a number of top tier gas companies that don't use Techron.

They prefer to call it "upselling" the customer.

I change power steering fliud in all my vehicles every couple years. I can tell a difference. I also change brake fliud every couple years in all my vehicles. Saves calipers. I'm a fan of maintance. Not overboard. Oh, throttle body's do get gummy. Look and see if yours needs cleaning. I'm not a fan of 'cleaning injectors'. I've seen some really nasty throttle body's in my day. If you don't want a dealer or any shop for that matter to do anything just say no thank you. You can also say 'show me' and prove I need such and such.

Sounds much more professional than " screw them out of every last dollar you can"
