Default iPhone and OnStar App

OnStar now has an app (https://www.onstar.com/web/portal/co...p_|_onstar_app ) to let you connect to your car with some great features, BUT I loaded the app and could not connect with my 2012 GS Coupe. Calling OnStar I was told that the app does not support Corvettes.

Maybe we need to put some heat on OnStar?

It will take a number of protests to get them in action I presume.

Unfortunately, it is not OnStar's decision whether or not to put the functionality into a car; that is GM's decision and while I think it might be able to be done beginning with the 2013 model, it's not something they will retrofit into a current model year vehicle.

I love using it in my daily driver, 2011 Cruze LTZ; they have added navigation to it that I can choose an address from one of my contacts and it downloads it directly to OnStar (you must have Turn By Turn through OnStar to have the navigation capability) and gives voice and visual prompts.

Maybe the General will add it to future model year Corvettes but don't look for it too soon.

I would guess that OnStar is not the source of the problem, Corvette technology is. Although the 2011-2012 Corvette supposedly does have the Generation 9 hardware that OnStar requires, it apparently still uses the old Serial Data Link bus technology that the rest of the GM line abandoned years ago. The GM vehicles, Corvette included, that do not work with the app are either older-generation OnStar hardware or use the old bus or both.

Today I got my second monthly diagnostic on my new Corvette from onStar. It reflected my miles, and oil life remaining as well as a diagnostic check of all the car's systems.

Due to the diagnosic, I assume onStar has access to this information so why will the app for my iPhone not work?

This seems to be a will on one hand and a will not on the other..........!

LS3 MN6, thanks for the answer, but to a layman (non-tech terms) what does it mean?

My guess is that it is the explanation as to why the app does not work, but how does it work for the report, but not the app as they seem to be about the same information?

I respect your opinion but frankly 'they' can already do that (and they don't need OnStar).
