Heated seats
I love heated seats but not sure that it's worth the $4000 to upgrade to a 3LT from a 2LT on my 2012 order.
I've seen a lot on the forums about members upgrading their seats. Is this to replace worn out leather or foam padding? Or is there a way to add heated seats to the car later down the road?
If there is an option to add them can anyone ball park a cost? I assume thats 4 heater grids (2 per seat), 2 switches, and labor at least, right?

One of the vendors sells a kit to add heat+massage to the seats. see this link: http://www.pfyc.com/GN2009.html
I wouldn't pay the $4000 for the seats, but, despite my skepticism when I got mine, I do like them. For one, I drive it all year, and it's nice to have the seats warm on a cold morning. Second, I love driving with the top off on these beautiful, crisp, cold, sunny days we've been having. The heated seats are particularly nice in those times.

You can add them if you find a good shop to do it, I would guess $500 for the pair
My fiance absolutely tole me that in no way was I buying a car without them again, so that in turn made the extra costs (I bought used though) of the 3lt package worth it lol

You can add them later with aftermarket heaters. Not sure of the cost but they do offer different types like heat/massage seats. I might look into it more when upgrade my seats.
To answer the rest of your question, yes most people are replacing worn padding in the seats. If I were doing it all over again, I would've upgraded to the 2lt for the better seats.

Yes, her and I both have just got used to every car having the heated seats. All of my past cars have, I work for Mercedes Benz (standard in all cars), and my current STI has them. I was too thinking about the cooler 50 degree days with the heated seats on and top off. Being I live in Pittsburgh I feel that heated seats would extend my Corvette season by 3 or 4 months.
But.....is $4000 really worth it? I am keeping the STI so I could just drive it if I really wanted the heated seat that day. What else comes with a 2012 3LT? Memory seats? So what I'll be the only person driving the car. Power passenger seat? She is capable of pulling a lever and sliding it. Homelink buttons? My garage door remote isn't huge. Is there anything that I missed? Does trim or anything get upgraded?

Turbo, I missed that you live in PGH. There is a place near the neville island area that can install the seat heaters for you. I would have to check with the guy I know to get the name of the place

I have heated seats in my Volvo and the wife likes them the two or three times a year we use them. Our bright red Corvette is so hot it doesn't need them. I am going to use the $ I saved to buy a Garmin GPS, trunk mat, car cover and take a trip to BG and tour the Corvette factory.

I'm with the OP, I ordered a 2LT - couldn't see spending the money just for the heated seats. I may go with one of those aftermarket solutions.
2012 2LT includes Nav and HUD.

The option packages have changed over the years, but for both the wife's cars and my cars, we have been usually buying the top option package for about 20 years now. Once we live with something like heated seats or zillion-way seat adjustments or HUD or xxx, we decide it is an improvement. We enjoy the car more and get a bit of the money back when we sell.
YMMV.

Let me know if anyone has questions on any of the kits we offer, I'll be happy to help.

Yeah, heated seats are the only way to go if you live in a cold weather area. Well worth the upgrade.
