How long did you have to wait before you could buy your C6??
Starting from the first one I saw as a kid, I always wanted a Corvette. In the early 80's when I was about 25, I had saved up 13K and it was enough to buy a used Corvette. I looked at a few but couldn't get myself to take the plunge. I was tired of living in a noisy apartment, so instead of a Corvette, I used the money as down payment for a house.
26 years later in 2009, several years after paying off the mortgage of our second house, my wife and I had saved up enough money to buy new cars for each of us.
A friend let me drive her new Toyota Prius and I decided that my next car MUST have push button start. I also wanted a built-in NAV system.
Then I rented 2 Corvette ZHZ's from Hertz. I almost bought one, but it didn't have built-in NAV and drew too much attention.
After that, I paid to have Carmax transfer a red 2005 to my location and I test drove it. Didn't buy that one.
Finally, I found a loaded 3LT online through Carmax (with NAV, HUD, Dual Mode Exhaust, Targa Roof, Magnetic ride control, etc., and of course 436 HP!) Had to wait about a week for them to truck it from a distant Carmax. (That was a long wait!)
Then my Silver 3LT arrived and I immediately noticed it had a nail in the back tire. It was a slow leak, so they let me test drive it and I bought it.
But that was in late December and they refused to let me take it home until they replaced the tire (liability reasons). So I had to wait another 5 days (over New Years) before they could get a new tire on it. In early January 2010, I finally got to drive it home.
Long wait, but it was definitely worth it.

Started lusting over the C3 in 1969.
I was 4 years old. Always wanted a Corvette since then.
Took a long time to make it happen.
Finally bought a 2011 Grand Sport this february, at 46.

My dad had a '73 when I was really young. He took me to the emergency room, riding in my mom's lap when I busted my head open. I slept on the battery deck at the drive-in movies...The '73 went away as the family grew, but the memories did not.
Years later, when I was barely legal to drive, I saw a '63 split that rekindled the love. Nearly 25 years later, at 40, I took NCM delivery of my '12 SSG Grand Sport!
PS - I didn't give up on the '63, I'll have that dream before long, too!

Decided to buy on Sunday night 9/4, visited one dealer the next morning (Labor Day) and bought from another dealer that afternoon, drove my new 2012 GS home at 3:15. So perhaps 19 hours of wait time give or take. I realize that may be unusual, but I'm old and impatient and the car's options and color were perfect for me.

I guess my approach was similar to the OP. I wanted a Corvette as far back as the early '60s and there were times when I could have made the purchase but I let practical priorities get in the way. You know, things like buying a home, raising kids, stupid stuff like that. Finally after 40 years I figured my time had come so I bought my car.
Then I promptly lost my job, but that's another story.....
Still have the car!

As most boys and men have done, dreamed about it all my life, but the family priorities always came first. Then, in '04, my local dealer got a clean used '02 on the lot that I couldn't stop drooling over. It was Mag Red w/ oak int. After it sat for about 4 months, I finally made the move. I was 59. It was everything I'd ever dreamed of.
But after a few years, and riding in a friends C6, I started dreaming about a C6. I watched on the forum and other internet sites for about a year, and in spring of this year, found what I wanted 500 miles away, an '08 w/ 4000 miles, same color combo, crystal red w/ beige int., made the tentative deal over the phone, drove out and traded.
Now, at 66, I think this is my last (so does the wife), but forever is long time.

Bought my first car (Pontiac) new in 1970. In 1972 I went looking for a Corvette. The only one I could fine was a 69 and it was a POS. Great straight line acceleration but it handled like a cow on ice and you had to stomp the brake with all your weight to get it to stop. I could buy any car I wanted so I went with Camaro in 1975 and had several performance cars until in 1985 I went looking for another Camaro. The dealership had bought a bunch of Corvettes and needed to get rid of them. The salesman insisted I test drive one. I had no interest. I knew Corvettes looked fantastic but were crap to drive. The salesman insisted. OK, to get him to maybe deal better on the Camaro I'll show some interest and force him into talking me into the car I really wanted. 3 miles later I was back at the dealership talking price on the Corvette. I've had one pretty much full time since then. Always pay cash.

I grew up in the Detroit area and used to drool over the drawings of the new Stingray (or Sting Ray as the case may be). My friend's dad was a big wheel with Rohm and Hass...he used to bring home an experimental Stingray made with a double-domed, Plexiglass bubble top. It was like something from the Jetson's! There were many different cars over the years but never a Corvette. I loved those early Stingray's but there were Corvette generations that didn't do much for me. Fast forward to the responsibilities of marriage and family there were other priorities. The Suburban became my utility workhorse. I thought the C5 was almost there but when I first saw the C6 (and read about it) I said that's it....Corvette's got it together again. I want one! It was a 50 year journey but no regrets...I love the car!

Back in 1961 my older brother bought a 1956 corvette during my freshman year in high school. I was hooked. I graduated college in 1969 and in 1970 bought my first vette. It was a 1969 black coupe with black interior. It was four speed with no air or power windows. I have not looked back since. Currently have a 07 LMB vert and hope to be able to afford a C7 when and if they come out.

Bought my 1st vette with all my savings at 18 ( 1999 c5 coupe loaded with 22k on the clock). Second and current vette at 23 two years ago (2006 well equipt with 5k on the odo) 3rd will be in about a year or so getting the z06 itch.
