My '05 vert has pretty much been perfect but I did do the slight sanding of the top plastic edges to keep it from wearing the top liner.

I was a touch sad to see the vert go, gave it a goodbye pat on the top as I walked away. Really did enjoy the vehicle (other than the ripping/catching top).

I just bought my 09 convertible and after 1 month I heard the tearing and caught it as it was caught and a tiny rip is there. Now each time I out the roof up I have to stop it and uncatch the material as it keeps getting caught.

I am not getting rid of this car as you did. Is there a real fix for this?

There is a real fix. My 2010 vert headliner tore in the first 5 months. I had my headliner replaced and have not had an issue . See your dealer.

For my car, or at least my dealer, apparently not. Take a look at some of the other threads that I've posted in regarding this, some folks on here have used an iron on patch as a solution. Best of luck. Gotta say, after putting 8700 miles on my GS CE Coupe, I don't miss the vert any more, but it was a very fun car!!!

Now the question is who is the poor sap that gets stuck with that Vert when it's resold?

One reason I've never been able to buy "pre-owned". I'm very suspicious!

I found that the fix .Which had a lot of filing of the inner edges of the header rails . Really did fix the issue. I am OK with the top/headliner. I have three summers and 27K on the clock . It looks fine to me.

Old thread and I hope i don't get it locked for posting but I was using the search tool and I am having trouble with my headliner ripping as well.

What would the problem be if I just removed the headliner all together?
A lot of cars have exposed top mechanisms and from what I can see the vette stuff is painted/coated black against my black top.

It has snake bite holes in top corners from rubbing and catching the trim as well as a mounting string that is ready to break from rubbing internally on the frame. Terrible design and typical GM just wanted us all to get out of warranty so they didn't have to address. Dealer told me Est $1,000 to replace, headliner and included string kit parts are $250, rest is labor. Upholstery shop doesn't want to touch it because they know it's a bad design. GM hired worst top manufacturer out there, leer, same outfit that did bmw terrible tops.

Has anyone just removed that headliner and called it a day?

Just a quick note:

I repaired mine (one hole on each side) with: "Tenacious Tape" Fabric repair tape, works great and is barely noticeable!
IMO the flaw is that the frame slides across a seam in the headliner, I believe that with enough use this will happen to all convertibles.

Mine didn't rip, but when it got pinched, it caused the headliner to stretch, so now the sides are loose and sag when the top is closed. From examining the headliner while the top is going up and down, it appears to me that there needs to be an elastic strap added to it that will pull it away from the point where it is getting pinched. It looks like a fairly simple fix that $2 worth of elastic strap or an elastic string in the right location would prevent.

Where did you purchase the fabric tape?

Go down to any dealer and they will print you a copy . This seems to be a common problem along with the 2 straps stretching causing the top to hit the tonneau cover. This is what I have against the engineers at GM. This was a problem with probably 05 and up to 13 and GM did not fix the problem. They had many years to revise it and come up with a fix. ( similar to the harmonic balancer issues. It's on all of the years same problem) they never did modify it.

I need to know the PSP or TSB number in order for them to find it.

It's hard to see but I sanded this area and placed a strip of the soft section of velcro on both sides of my 2012 GS. So far so good

Does anyone have access to the TSB that could upload or email it out in a PDF? I have a website I can host it on if someone can get it to me.

<edit> I think I found it on-line here -> https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...37904068,d.cGw

I've attached a PDF of the installation instructions for the headliner. The headliner Part Number is 19207984 and the cost is about $230 or so on-line. Since my car is out of warranty and the headliner is stretched beyond repair, I'm going to attempt to replace it myself using these instructions.
