Why does anyone modify anything? Because they can. I'll bet there are a couple of Auto Z06's out there. Just like I know there are a couple of right hand drive Z06's out there.
If it were a choice I would pick the auto in 2011. The 60's thru the 90's it would be the manual. However, the new automatic are incredible. Just ask a CTS-V owner with one.

I've seen a Z06 with a covertible conversion. Saw it happen.

Someone who wants a Z or ZR1 for that matter, but does not have the capability of using their left foot (and has a lot of extra cash for the conversion).
Before I broke my foot this summer I never thought about an auto. After two months in a cast I realized that some people my not have a choice. Thank God I was back to rowing thru those gears after two months.
