Default Shift Problems

I purchased a 2007 Z06 recently from an individual and I am having recuring problems shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. This only happens when I am accelerating.
At idle I can easily shift the gear pattern.
The mileage on my car is less than 7500. When I first got the car I noticed that the shift to 2nd gear felt like it was slighlty tighter than the rest of the other gears. It has gotten increasingly more difficult to engage 2nd gear to the point that I have to bypass and go to 3rd gear.

Sounds like you've got some worn synchros that need replaced. If that is the case, this won't get better, it will get worse.

Drivetrain warranty still in place?

Do you drive long enough to warm up the trans?

My '07 coupe is difficult to shift into 2nd and 3rd until the trans warms up. This has always been exactly the same from brand new to today's 20,000 miles.

I believe that in '08 they chamfered some gears to smooth out this sort of difficult shifting in both the Z and the base car.

As asked above, is the issue there when trans is warming up, or at all times. I'd have a hard time believing it's an internal synchro or gear issue at that mileage, unless the cars been beat hard. I know mine had much smoother shifting after having the trans mounts changed to Phadt mounts. There's a greater distance from shifter to trans in our cars than most, so a bit of misalignment can be magnified.

mizellbe,
This sounds like it may a transmission related issue. Which should be covered under your powertrain warranty. If you'd like me to look into this further or possibly setup an appointment to have it looked at send me a private message.

Does it have the skip shift eliminator? Is the "1-4" light on in the DIC?

Just a thought.

Default Skip Shift Eliminator

The problem with my 1st to 2nd shift will be solved by installing a skip shift eliminator. My local dealer was very helpful and explaining why the problem exists.

My 05 does the same thing. I shift from 1st to 3rd till the trans warms up. After that things work great.
