Dealer wants $110 to flash ECM
I have a 2005 C6 and I want to know if it is worth the $110 to get the PCM/ECM fixed? I am hoping this fixes the shifter in reverse battery drain issue and the antenna booster issue (am to fm to make it work).
I am way out of warranty and this is not a recall, so comments?

The 2005 had a TSB for a reflash of the BCM to fix some dead battery issues.

Have you verified that it hasn't been done already?
I recall seeing costs as high as $250, years ago, but I don't know if owners were actually paying that much. If it really needs to be done I would consider $110 a reasonable cost for 2 separate reflashes.

I'd raise holy hell with GM because this issue was known for years before they ever acknowledged it and it should have been a recall, not a TSB!!!Out of warranty or not, that's BS!!Other then that,110 isn't bad considering they will spend all of 6 minutes doing the reflash!

2006 Convertible. I paid .5 labor. Dealer. I went in and told them what I wanted done. There is a long TSB on the DBS. I didn't want to get involved in te long TSB. I just wanted the flash done. They did with no issues. It didn't fix it. Took a BCM and a trunk lid key switch. GM offered assistance on the BCM/switch repair.

GM has a TIS website that shows all of the available firmware updates in it for each specific VIN#. I've seen a lot of dealers lately offering free PCM/ECU updates in conjuction with a routine service visit. The usual charge is one hour of labor to do it at the going labor rate. http://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web

I can't see raising holy hell about it at this point. It's no consolation if you have the problem but the fact is not enough cars were affected to elevate it to a full-blown recall. I can't see making a scene over 100 bucks with a 2005. Evidently, for many years no one thought the problem was severe enough to get the re-flash. I'd mention the known issue and maybe the dealer would extend some courtesy as a good-will gesture. If not and if the re-flash fixes the problem, $100 is a small price to pay.

I had a 05 coupe that the battery was going dead in a week. I put a new battery in and the car did the samething. Had Chevrolet do the reflash and it did not fix the problem. They replaced the BCM and the problem was fixed.

If it's out of warranty, why should it be free? Check out the list of firmware updates and see if your issue is corrected before doing the flash.
If this is going to fix your issue, just pay!
