Default About to buy a corvette but...

Hi, im planning to buy a 2005 corvette c6, i saw 1 on cars .com for 23k with 75k on it, i went to the dealership to test drive it. Compared to my bmw m3 it seemed slow to me (the vette is auto) =/ or is my imagination? is it a good deal? the motor looked clean to me. I need ur recommedations, should i buy it or not? thank you.

Corvette came with two different rear end ratios that year: 2.73 and 3.15 on the time proven 4 spd. auto. Don't know much about BMW's but the Corvette usually has superior weight to power ratio. I have the 3.15 rear end with same auto trans and I do not find it lacking in acceleration.

Unique to the 2005 model year is the time proven A-4 and that steering wheel.

It doesn't appear to have the Z51 option...look in the glove compartment for the code "G90"...that would mean it has the 3:15 rear end. My guess is it has the 2:73 which would not give it much low end if it doesn't feel fast.

Autos are preferred transmission for straight line acceleration and getting that power to the ground.

Here is a good deal on a 2008 auto, here in our C6 for sale section.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...000-miles.html

Just some info for ya. Not much more than you're looking to spend.
LS3, baby.

I drove a few BMWs over the years and the thrill goes out the window for me if it has an automatic. I never had the 4spd auto in a Vette but the A6 is a different story, even with tall 2.73 gears. With the Vette you cannot just stomp the accelerator, do that and the car will be like what the heck then finally get moving. Rotate the gas pedal slowly (about 1/4 sec or so to the floor) and it'll take off like a rocket.

In the Vette there just isn't that big of a difference between A6 and M6 performance wise.

Under no circumstance would I ever buy a Corvette that seemed slow to me. If set on buying one, keep looking until you find one that doesn't seem slow to you. If you never find such a car, never buy one.

not trying to put you down, but what exactly do you know about the C6? I think you're going about this, sounds to me, as if you're buying a sedan for daily commutes. this car, and an m3 and all the other more specialized cars, you just don't go out, test drive and then start asking questions about is it worth it. that's my opinion because I don't even know where to start on answering your questions w.o. knowing what you know. only ans. I can give you is, no, to me the price for that car isn't. but that's me. and truthfully that's not a very good answer.

It's going to feel slow with that kind of mileage if it's a DD and not well cared for imo.
That price isn't bad if that's the price point you're at. Check eBay for comps./completed auctions. kbb too. Spend some time here on the forum and study up b4 you buy.
