Default Key FOB not detected

I've done a search & read my threads on this, but have not been able to rectify my situation.

I just bought the car yesterday! It is a 2006 A6.

She started fine earlier this afternoon. I go to start her tonight & get the FOB not detected message. I change the battery in 1 of the 2 fobs & same thing with both FOBs.

So start the FOBs would still lock/unlock doors & open hatch, but then they started to only lock/unlock sometimes.

Now both FOBs will not work at all. Now I can't even get in the car or close the windows & the ignition button if flashing rapidly nonstop. WTF?!

The window is open enough to get my arm in so I tried the lock button on the inside & nothing. Tried the hatch button too & nothing. Not open enough for me to reach the hood release. At least she's in the garage.

Do I have any options outside of a tow to the dealer?

EDIT: Bad battery. Thanks guys.

Use your key to open the hatch (or the trunk if you have a vert) and locate the emegency door cable on the left above the wheel well. Pull the cable and the driver side door will unlatch. Place your fob in the golve compartment slot - buttons towards the passenger door - and the car should start (if the battery is not discharged). My guess is that your vehicle battery is discharged or bad. I would replace it.

Hopefully you have the glovebox/console/hatch key somewhere outside the car.

Above the rear license place, next to the hatch button, is the hatch release key-slot. Use the key to open the hatch. The alarm will sound. On the left is the pull tab to open the drivers door.

If you get this far, open the hood. Test your battery with a voltmeter. Should be apx 12.6 volts. I suspect the car battery has seen it's life. If it is original.....definitely time to replace it.

If the car battery is ok, put your fob in the glovebox slot, buttons facing right, keyring facing rear. Then try to start normally. If it recognizes the fob in the slot then your fob battery is a problem. It may be a connection problem even though it's new.

Much more in this thread.....

This happens to me everytime the battery is low. Simply recharge or replace the battery. One thing that is VERY important is to keep the battery on a trickle charger if you don't drive it every day. Lots of threads about batteries.

After I calmed down, LOL, I remembered the key slot under the hatch. I opened the car up & the battery is now charging. I hope that's all it is. According to VIS, it was last changed in 2008 & with only 25k miles on the car it seems likely that this is the problem. If so, I'll just hit Autozone tomorrow.

And remember that if you install a new battery, you'll have to reset the window indexing.

Close the car door. Raise the window and hold the up switch an extra 3 seconds. Release. Without lowering the window, hold the up switch again for 3 seconds. Release. Done. Don't forget the other window.

She started so the battery is bad. Thanks for the window info.

Get a new battery... an OEM Delco never fully recovers from a complete discharge. Anyway, 4-5 years is about average life.

I will replace mine at 5 years regardless of condition. Cheap insurance & peace-of-mind.

Definitely use a good battery tender (like a CTEK) if your C6 sits a lot.

A spare key for your wallet is handy. Under $10 at most places that cut car keys. Use key blank B-106 (same as a Saturn).

BTW, congrats on your new C6!

Thanks. I'm going to hit Autozone tomorrow & get a Duralast Gold battery. I looked online & they show stock at my local store for this battery that fits the C6.

I like Autozone... helpful folks, good products.

Just make sure you get the correct battery size!

That is, not all C6 batteries are the same size. That's because of differences in the size of the battery tray.

For '06 & '07, the C6 has a slightly bigger battery tray (on left):

The battery for your '06 is a Group Size 90, which is 246 x 175 x 175 millimeters.

BTW, don't lose the battery terminal nuts... these special cone-shape nuts are difficult to find (can't get 'em at a Chevy dealer).

Anyway, you don't need to remove the nuts, just loosen 'em enough; then gently pry-off the clamp with a screwdriver.

After purchasing a new battery for the FOB and still having the same problem of "No FOB Detected", I came to the forum for answers. After reading everyone's comments, I checked the car battery, 12.7V, then checked the FOB, 2.75V. Then I got to thinking about the FOB contacts, they are spring contacts, I bent all of them out slightly so they would apply more pressure on the connection points. No more problems. My guess would be that pressing the buttons on the front eventually bends the spring contacts to a point where they only make an intermittent connection. Hope this helps someone.

I'm wondering if your FOB battery at 2.75v is a problem. Seems low to me.

A real test would be to measure the voltage of the battery when any buttons are pressed, i.e. under load. That will give a good idea of the condition, but obviously not easily tested that way when closed up in the FOB.

A brand new 2032 FOB battery usually measures slightly over 3v.

Also, somewhere in the many pages of cclive's FOB programming thread.....Here
I added a post when I discovered that when handling the fob batteries it's best to use a tissue and clean any residue off from handling. I had strange fob problems after new fob battery and I cleaned the new battery and bent the contacts a bit for a better tension and it was fixed.

Default Fob

I had the same problem until I went to Lowes and bought two batteries. Haven't had a problem since. I used a cheap set of batteries at first and continued having issues. I also thought it was my car battery. I have a 06 coupe.

While this may not be your specific problem, for me, whenever the fob is in the same pants pocket as my Iphone, I get the "No FOB Detected" msg.

LONG SHOT.
Might be another RFID card interfering with your FOB. Another key less FOB from another car.
I have an RFID card in my pocket to gain access where I work. If I put the FOB in the same pocket as the access card the FOB doesn't work. Can't start the car. Says "No FOB detected". If I put it in the other pocket away from the RFID card I can start the car - no problem. Both are transmitting and jamming into each other.
