Default can you test drive a vette before purchase?

i remember when i first purchased my vette the dealership salesman told me that test driving was not permitted for the vette because who would want to by a car with miles on it. is this a dealership rule or pretty standard for corvettes?

I don't know about new ones. I bought my first Vette last November. I wasn't looking at new ones but every dealer I visited for used Vettes couldn't wait to get me behind the wheel. Only one time did an dealership employee ride with me. I found their trust rather amusing since I hadn't driven a stick in 30+ years and I was only looking at manual transmissions.

I would think it easier to be able to drive used vehicles than new, from a dealership perspective. Many Corvette customers
(such as me) do not want more than a very few miles (if any !) on a new unit. Who knows if someone really beat-on-it
during a test drive ? My '09 had 4 mi's, and my '10 had 16 mi's. I did not test drive either of them.

Just drive several used models as close to the configuration as you'd like to buy...that should give you a pretty good idea
of the differences that you are looking to compare...

Dealers typically have a Vette designated for test drives, but usually won't just let you drive any. We are a picky bunch

When I bought my Z06 in early '07 nobody was allowed to test drive a Z06, so I almost bought a Viper because that made me upset. The Dodge dealer handed me the Viper keys no problem. In the end I bought the Z without ever testdriving one and never looked back.

I guess it depends on the dealership, but I test drove a number of brand new Vettes before I bought one.

I test drove a base 6 speed coupe today, they didn't even ask for license or info... but the sales person came with me... very easy...

I think they should at least have one car you can test drive. I mean yeah I wouldn't want someone joy riding in the car but I myself couldn't buy something without a test drive.

I had a Carmax guy say I could do whatever I wanted in one of their vehicles (which happened to be my old Mustang GT) and I had another dealer not even give me the time of day because a $18k vert was out of my price range. I would love to see which dealers gave me the time of day... and then honk while driving away in my 650hp C6 if they didn't.

I guess I might not want to buy a "new" Corvette, that had miles racked up from test rides. I'm sure this is the dealers concern. The future buyer of that car.

I can understand it more with a vette than the dealer that was trying to not let me test drive an 09 Evo X GSR a few years ago. After a discussion with the general manager I was allowed to go with a sales guy riding with me. I ended up with my vette so it was good that I test drove the vehicles I did(Evo/Grand Cherokee SRT8). I never had to test drive a vette since I had an LS2 in the GTO I was driving and knew I would be getting better handling, lighter weight and more power from an LS3 vette.

I test drove quite a few brand NEW Corvettes shopping throughout the Southern
CA area. Of course the last one I test drove I bought. When I got behind the wheel it had 22 miles on it.

It depends on the dealership.

I went to Kerbeck in Atlantic City "just to look". I saw one I like and told the salesman I wanted to drive it.

After a short road test, I was sold. I went right into his office and signed the paperwork.

They used to have designated DEMO cars. Then give a nice discount at the end of the model year.

Nowdays it seems they let you test drive a new one. Mine had 8 miles on it when I got it. Seems fine.

Jimmie Johnson Chevy in San Diego had no problem letting me drive a new GS. Salesman was with me and we put on about 15 miles up and down the I-15.

the results of your credit check might influence their willingness to let you test drive a corvette or other high end car.

Kidding....sort of. i think most dealers will allow a mature appearing adult to test drive. i agree that they may have one car there that they allow it. i think they like to keep the majority of their cars at very low mileage on the odometer. that's been my experience.

In todays world, if the dealer wont let you drive the Corvette you are interested in, then leave.

Not in this area (for new Vettes anyhow). The first Corvette I drove was the one I bought.

I test drove mine. There is no way I'd buy it otherwise.
