Default Dexos 2

Can Dexos 2 be used as a sub for Dexos 1. Dexos 1 not available where I am, Dexos 2 is.

I searched the Forum for an answer but did not come up with anything. My 2006 C6 is out of warranty.

Thanks

Dexos1 is GM’s gasoline engine spec. Dexos2 is their diesel engine spec. The difference is in the additive packages which are tailored to the needs of the two different types of engines. Dexos2 would not ruin a gas engine, nor would Dexos1 ruin a diesel. But for best possible performance, you’d be wise to stick to intended use, and find a source of Dexos1 for your Vette. Supposedly, basic Mobil1 is available globally. GM’s factory fill Dexos1 is also supposedly available in Europe at GM dealers.

I didn't know the difference betw. Dexos 1 and 2 above, but OP, your car is an '06 and doesn't require Dexos. Some oils are designated as Dexos 1 but your car requires the older requirement (mine, too) which is GM 4718M and which is found on many, full-synthetic oils. And, to my knowledge, Mobil 1 Full Synthetic is still a 4718M oil, as well as other full synthetic oils.

The exxon website does not list Greece, so it does seem that it is not available in Greece.

Seems to me that this is a great question for our forum GM rep to answer...

Rotella T6 is a full syn and rated SM. On the oil board, there are people that run it in gas powered cars with great results.

Default Read the Label

Read the label on the back of the container and you should be good to go.

Your old silver bottle Mobil1 oil that met the old GM4718M spec also meets the dexos1 spec.

Use Castrol Edge Fully Synthetic. Since it's a BP Product I'd expect Greece to have it (since BP is a European company).

I agree, as have some Castrol Edge syn in the basement, and carries the Dexos 1 spec.

I haven't tried the local Corvette dealer, try 20 Euros per liter Mobil 1.

Will look for the other oils recommended, Edge sounds like a good bet.

Many thanks
