Default Oil pressure and coolant temp

What is normal on a c6? Just traded up from c5 and c6 seems to run a little warmer than my c5 did and oil pressure not quite as high. Car only has 7700 miles and runs good. I know the owners manual says oil pressure is from 20 to 80 but just wondering what is about normal. Thanks for your help.

My oil pressure is about 40 or so at start up and goes down to about 32 after its warmed up.
Coolant temp is at 195º at highway speed and at between that and 210º stuck in traffic.

Cruising in clean air , i'm @ 196-198, the instant I stop , it immediately starts to climb, and will continue to climb till I start moving. It has gone as high as 215 and don't know if that was all it was going to go as we started moving again. I have always been concerned about that, the dealer says it's O.K. (but thats no surprise). To me thats just a bit on the scary side. Any one know what thermostat degree comes in the base LS 2 C'6's? Does everyone else's stock LS2 run like this??

The dry sump cars (Z06, GS w/stick shift) have higher oil pressure because of the system design, can't compare with the other cars.

Us lowly wet sump guys are designed to have lower pressure, our 2009 LS3 is usually about 40 at startup and exactly 27 at an oil temp of 180'F. That's the same as our 2006 LS2 was at those temps.

I live in Tucson and when the temps are over 100 degrees and have seen 112 recently outside my 2007 LS2 convert runs around 195 when moving and in very heavy stop and go traffic in town the highest I have seen is 205. Both of those temps were with the AC going.

Have you checked the front of your radiator for debris or a lot of bugs stuck in the fins. My car only has about 6,400 miles on it and the radiator still looks like new so that may be why I see such a small deviation in temps.

I have a SLB Speed Lingerie Bra on front end with mesh that protects condensor/front from bugs for flatten fins.
Idle 29
freeway 41
temp 192 - 225

Can't recall temps for Transmission or Oil temp.
What is the norm on both of these?

Sorry, I don't recall. But I do remember they were like our 2009- steady at around 190' on the highway, but would climb immediately when I stop or get into traffic.

IIRC, the cooling fan goes to High when coolant reaches 235', don't think mine ever got that high and so I quit worrying about it on either car.

I believe the old saying is "Ignorance is Bliss."

Thermostat opens at 190-195º, and fan kicks in at high speed at 235º, so anywhere in-between is going to be normal. The good thing about running A/C is fan kicks in at high speed pretty soon after switching it on (when it reaches certain pressure). I took my car to a mountain run at 60º, and oil temperature started climbing until 235º (didn't get past 4K rpm due to break-in) when I stopped. Next time I'll run A/C, even if I have the windows down.

And yes, oil pressure seems to run pretty high on my dry-sump GS, but haven't noticed exactly how much at idle. It should be like others report, in the 30s. That's why we shouldn't use any thicker oil than 5/30, like some do.

The (stock tune) fan starts at ~204*F and is at high speed at ~235*F and above. Overtemp warning is issued at ~256*F

With all of these Temp ranges on oil, coolant, transmission fluid I wonder when using a different brands of fluid such as Redline or Amsoil makes a difference in temps?

Oil pressure will drop as engine temps increase, luckily the volume is not efected as much by heat. There was recently a KIA debate about running any cooler than the factory settings will shorten engine life. These high running temps are neccesary to achieve today's emmisions ratings-standards. I guess everyone forgets the Castrol ads about "heat and friction" shortening engine life. As far as running the A/C, you are better off resetting your fans. Otherwise you are just taking away H.P. with the increased load and actually increasing engine temps.

Default collant

Mcguyver, sorry I didn't answer right away, just got back on the computer. The collant was a little over 200 and it was about 75 to 80 outside temp and running about 60 MPH on the open road. My C5 never went over 195 in those conditions. I know sometimes the gages are off a little but want to check it out further. Thanks to everone that replied as very good information.

'07 base Coupe, 12K miles, 80F, 5K elev, at idle:
Oil 214F, 30 psi, 96% remaining
A6 trans 197F
Coolant 212F
13.4v
But it's yellow, other color's numbers might vary.

But actually, your oil pressure is a little higher than mine would be at that temp, what weight oil are you using?

Mobil-1, 5W-30, but it's fresh at 96%. And, more importantly, the oil is yellow.
