Default first boo boo in the GS

Hit a rather large piece of metal on the freeway yesterday. Hit the front end pretty hard and actually lodged into the bumper. The slice in the bumper is all the way through and has actually separated even more. the bottom is scuffed pretty bad. the license plate took most of the hit or it could have been much worse. it was about a 1 foot semi circle piece of metal that got pushed right in front of me from the truck in the lane to the left of me.

Do you think this is repairable or is it going to be a full replacement? taking it into the body shop on friday. Insurance is already involved, just wondering what to expect

you guys rock, happy 4th!

Ouch. Your one lucky individual that piece of metal didn't penetrate your windshield.

Sorry to hear.

If the bumper is sliced, I'd insist on a new one.

Glad it wasn't any worse.

jack if it would have it would have done major damage....it was like a flying razor...it actually stuck in the bumper until i slowed down and then proceeded to work its way under the car.

I don't know if it's repairable (I'd think not), but as said, you are really lucky, thank goodness.

Re-attaching the front bumper requires proper installation of some clips in the plastic, and many shops don't know how to do it. The result is a slightly sagging front bumper, or the two small pieces inboard of the headlight sticking up, or both. Check with your repair shop to verify that they know how or will learn how, and make them understand that anything short of perfection will not be accepted.

When our C6 got hit up front, the shop couldn't get the clips right and I had to take it back twice. They were getting annoyed, but fortunately State Farm backed me up.

The bumper is replaceable, your not! Glad it did not injure you. It will be as good as new once it is repaired.

Same think happen to a buddy of mine. He was on the freeway and hit a piece of metal.. Went back and found out it was part of a sign that was in the ditch. It was a sign for a taco place that was getting a replacement. Tracked it down to the sign company and they are paying.

Just be happy it didn't go any higher and that you had a front license plate. Also be glad you have a white car as it will be easy to match. Check the mount tabs under the bumper. My 08 took a hit from a big road gator. Damaged the plastic in the front right corner. Bumper was scuffed but then I noticed one of those tabs broke from the shock. Replaced bumper and it never looked right again in low light (Atomic Orange).
