Default Driving in the Rain?

Why is it that when someone lists his or her car for sale and wants almost as much as the price of the new discounted car (Kerbeck's cars are around 10K less than list), he or she mentions in the ad that it was never driven in the rain.

Does driving it in the rain depreciate the car faster than one that has not been driven in the rain?

Does used car that was never driven in the rain become a new car?

What damage does the rain do to a car?

Comments?

Good chance they will melt if driven in the rain.

I attended a car care seminar at the bash this year and that subject came up. They said a beautiful sunny day is harder on your car than a rainy day is. They build them to get wet.

If a car has never been in the rain does does it also follow that its never been on the other side of a garden hose? Never washed?

I don't ascribe to the theory that our cars should be garage queens by any shake of the imagination, but if you live in an area that salts their roads in the winter, then driving in the rain can lead to ugly corrosion to the aluminum parts of the car. It's most likely just cosmetic, but it still looks like ****. I live in AZ, so I guess, according to the earlier post about sun damage, I'm screwed...

Guess my ad will read..."always driven at night, sometime just early morning if absolutely necessary."

How about?

Always driven at night, sometime just early morning if absolutely necessary on dry lukewarm days but never farther than the garage door.

I bet this car would sell at a premium to MSRP!

I believe when they say that, they are hoping you then believe they are totally **** of their car & thus it will prove it has been well taken care of. Now with that said since mine is an extra weekend car I will avoid driving it if the forecast calls for rain but that's me.

could be. a lotta corvette owners are repeat corvette owners. and a lotta repeat owners have older corvettes. and a lotta older corvettes don't get washed but they do get cleaned. and very well I might add.

but that's not really your concern or issue, is it? you're really here to kinda stir up the pot, right?

so, tell some of us great unwashed vette owners, or at least never rained on, when you gonna buy one?

If it's not listed on the carfax, then I don't believe it's never been driven in the rain

It just goes to show the extent some owners will go through for percieve resell value. Just drive the darn thing, it's not an investment for another 40 years, and then maybe not then. And based on the age polls around here, very few owners here now, will be around in 40 years.

Oh wait, this just in .....

KBB and Edmunds do not have a catagory for never being driven in the rain

The whole never driven in the rain mentality has always perplexed me. People avoid driving in the rain to avoid damaging the paint, which was put in place to protect the car from the rain. For my money, I would rather see that a car was driven and well maintained. I drive mine in the rain, on the highway even. It is probably worthless already so I guess I will have to keep driving it.

Do you avoid driving in the rain because it will get the beautiful clean spotless car dirty and then you'll have to spend an hour washing it again afterwards? I can understand that. Or do you think it may get damaged in some way? Really I do want to know.

My neighbor just bought a 100K used Ferrari and he said he wouldn't drive it in the rain. Instead he will use his twin turbo Porsche for that. Really!

I try not to drive my Z in the rain for two reasons. It gets it dirty and the car can be a sled on wet roads. If you drive those wide tires on wet roads you just have to be careful. Not that it is overly dangerous, but, they can water plane.

My C6 is a toy. Something for nice days and weekends, nothing more. I will not drive it in the rain, not because I think it will damage the car in some way, but because I hate road grime. I have my DD for that. I plan on having my C6 for a long time and the nicer I can keep it now, the nicer it will be 20 years from now.

Yes, I am THAT guy. To each his own. Play how you want.
