Default Michigan Police say "please rev it up"

So, I am driving 75 in a 55 and everyone else is going 70 and a County tag team (2 police in the car) pull me over.

They both come up to the car and ask for the usual - I give all the paperwork and 1 guy heads for the cruiser and he other stays put - at my window.

Next he says "your exhaust sounds nice - aftermarket?" I replied yes and that I like it too. Then he says "do me favor, rev it up it a bit". I said, your partner is back there writting me a ticket and you want me to rev this thing up. He said "no problem, I am training the other guy tonigh - go ahead 'rev it up'.

I next gave him about 3K. He smiled, put his head in the car to see the tach (it was night time). Then he says, 'come on, give me some more' - so I reved to about 3,500.

Next, his partner came back to the car. I explained that the only reason I was revving the motor was because his partner asked me to. He said 'oh, I know, I rolled my window down so I could hear it - sounds nice'.

He then gave me a ticket for 5 over.

I'll never forget it.

Sounds like the "rev" was worth it. Only five over vs. 20 over and many points.

May be a case for a bi-modal if they hadn't liked the sound, eh?

Hope & change is definately not working for the people of Michigan.

Lucky the troopers are not on horseback.

They cut you a break for sure, although it would have real nice just to let you off with a warning.

Maybe since he was a FTO training officer he figured he would stay close to the book and teach the rookie how to write a mover at the same time.

There is no hope for Michigan.....the only change we'll see is the change of scenery while making an exit from this state.....

I completely understand. I have friends up there and the state is almost beyond repair. Which is real sad because Michigan was one great state not that long ago. People had hope last November, but that is now completely gone and it is even worse then it was just a year ago.

Exactly....although, the downward slide has been happening for several years now, as one small manufacturing company after another has been closing or relocating to Mexico week by week....day after day
Thanks to all the people that won't support our well built American made automobiles and choose to buy the Asian brands with the false belief that they are of a higher quality....

I've driven all over Michigan and it is sad to see there problems now. I've been from Iron Mountain in the UP all the way down to Detroit or Indiana border.

Five over was probably fair since you were going 5 over everyone else. I would think the revving the exhaust thing would have let you by with a warning though.

Good story,

The guy got a break. They could have given him a 20 over and also ticketed him for the exhaust if they wanted to.

5 over is a happy ending.

I thought, maybe they were going to write you up for a noise violation/illegal equipment.
