Default How high can you jack up your car...........

on one side if you are going to change a tire? IE: how high are your jack stands when they are lowered all of the way down? The lowest my jack stands go are about 11". So, (when jacking the car up in the jacking puck area) I have to jack the car up over 11" to get my stands under the car. My other cars are higher, but this (11-12") is really going to tilt the C6 quite a bit. Is it going to hurt the car any? Should I get drive over stands and start from there before/when I jack the car up? Or should I find lower jack stands if I want to change a tire or do other work under the car?

I frequently jack one side to replace both wheels for autocross. No problems that I'm aware of.

How high do you tilt the car on one side? Does it go up 11-12" when you jack yours up? It only has to go up about half that high to change the tires. But my jack stands really seem extra high.

I don't get under the car so I don't use jackstands. I only jack it high enough to get the rear tires off the ground a few inches, the fronts go higher when then the rears but nothing near 11" under the tire. If I need to use jackstands I jack from the front and rear jack points.

Mine has to come up about 12 1/2" to get the jack stands under it...no problem.

OK, thanks. I was worried about jacking up one side at a time and tipping the car over 11-12" before I get the car jacked up on the other side. I probably need driveover ramps, too for oil changes. So, thanks for your help. I appreciate it so much.......

You can find Race Ramps on Amazon. That's where I bought mine. In fact, they were on sale. Buy the 2 piece ones with the removable ramp. Makes oil changes a breeze.

Default Race Ramps $25 Gift Card rebate thru 30-Sep-2012

Several CF sponsors also sell Race Ramps for the same price as Amazon and would appreciate your business. At Reverse Logic we offer custom Race Ramps for lowered cars as well as heavy duty versions that have an increased capacity.

Also, Race Ramps has a current promotion running thru 30-Sep where you can get a $25 Visa Gift Card when purchasing eligible ramp models.

If only changing a tire/tires I do one at a time with a jack using the jacking points on the frame with pucks installed.
Raise the tire about an inch or 2 off the ground.
Then for safety, I wedge a pressure treated 2x4 between the scissor part of the jack and lower the jack until it stops with the tire still off the ground.
This eliminates the need to raise it higher for a jack stand and prevents the car from going down in case the jack fails before getting the replacement rim/tire on.
For working under the car or oil changes I use Race Ramps.

I always worried about twisting the frame so I made the investment to go with 2 jacks 4 stands. I lift the car up pretty evenly front to back not side to side.

If I'm just changing a tire and jacking from the 'corner' (under where the jacking puck would go) I only lift the car high enough to remove the wheel/tire. For added safety I often use a cut 'length' of pressure treated 4 x 4 wood post (wrapped with Gorilla tape) I place under the car (in place of a taller jack stand) for added security. Even without the stout wood 'stand' if the jack hydraulics failed the car would still be resting on the jack.

Watch the angle when lifting just one side, they can slip out real easy
and take part of a fender with them.
Seen it happen here on the CF.

I wouldn't jack the side up 12"---chance for jack or stands to kick out. Were you gonna jack one side, place stands then jack other side while car is tilted 12" sideways or jack front then rear? Too much that can go wrong in a hurry----safty 1st. IMO.
