Default Problems with 2012 Base Coupes?

Thinking about trading my 08 Silver A6 base coupe for a new 12 Crystal Red A6 base coupe. Any problems with the 2012 A6 base coupes that I should know about? It has the 3LT option package.

Had mine since early May, 2500 miles and only one issue. The cowling under the wipers made the loud humming sound others have experienced. Fixed it myself with a small bead of sealant. Otherwise no problems and I'm very happy with it!

I've had no problems with my base 2012 6 manual...

What I've seen is the interior looks more rich looking and there is less white residue between cleanings...The seats are looking like brand new after 9 months and 7k miles...The seats seem more comfortable and the bolster problem is resolved. The console cover is just soft enough now and the angle between elbow and shifter it perfect. The arm rests look much better and the padding helps there too.

Still check out seams and panel fits as there is a wide array of minor fitment problems as usual. (I looked at more than 200 Vettes)

Overall I'm loving the 12 more than my 07 or 11 and the 11 was an a6..(it shifted slow with paddles but was great in D)

Good luck and have fun looking. Its hard to beat the Vette buying experience...

Only thing I hear of recurring is to make sure the factory alignment is checked, if the car has the aggressive alignment setting it will eat through your tires very quickly.

I have a 2012 2LT. The fit and finish are less than impressive. I have the typical alignment issue. I had black goo dripping from under the glove compartment. There is a rear hatch gasket coming loose. The roof always has one loud pop after it's been removed and replaced - usually when going over the first bump. They had to replace two of the crappy Goodyears because they were out of round. There is still a mysterious vibration at highway speeds when lifting off the throttle. Not a good show from GM so far.

Thanks for the comments so far. The local dealer has located one for me that's about 700 miles away. I'm supposed to talk to him some more in a couple of days about what he's going to give me for my car.

I purchased my 2012 in April. The overall build quality and panel fitment isn't as good as my 07 or my 08. The cowl was replaced under warranty. The only other item I have is a non-funtional horn which I have yet had time to get in for repair.

Mechanically the car is sound.

Jim, I've not heard of any issues from the Chicagoland and Western Michigan folks. A great car! Go for it!!

I highly recommend you talk with some of the forum dealers and compare prices. Many of them have great incentives on 2012s right now! I bought mine from Criswell last fall and got a very competitive price, deal with Mike Furman over there. They ship all over the country and are a lot closer to you than 700 miles.

i think that issue has been addressed on the forum before and has been deemed normal. has something to do with the characteristics of the torque tube but i could be wrong. somebody please correct if thats not the case.

Yes, I'll get the alignment checked, and reset for street only use. Thanks for the reminder.

Jim..awesome! Hope it works out...

Assume you heard that starting tomorrow there is an additional $3000 Corvette Owner Loyalty?

Perfect timing....

In late January, I bought the 2012 base coupe A6 1LT cyber gray w gray wheels shown here:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/phot...hp/photo/89710

Now have about 4,000 miles. No problems whatsoever. Fit and finish seem fine to me. Runs fine and I'm particularly pleased with the A6. Glad I bought the car and wouldn't choose anything different.

Only minor complaint pertains to the very low idle speed (~500 RPM) and irregular idle (more like a misfire than cam lope) that causes slight irregular car shake. Of course there are many forum threads and a TSB on this subject. Apparently it is a characteristic of many or most or all LS3s.

Actually, that's what caused me to visit my local dealer today. As many cars as I've bought from him, he's not helping the deal much yet. I told him about the incentives that start tomorrow. He acted like he didn't know anything about it.

It's still only just a conversation with him right now.

It will have the aggressive alignment. They are all set the same within a certain tolerance.
Have the alignment done after 500 miles according to the pfadt street specs.

Push on the back of each seat to make sure they are not rocking. The only problem I can see so far with my new 2012.

I don't think any particular year is better in terms of fit or finish than any other year. There are a lot of people that are involved in the assembly of a car and some are very good at their job and some are just adequate. The acceptance level for paint, panel fit, interior trim, etc are not as high as most of us would like but it keeps the price down. The best thing you can do is evaluate any car before you purchase. Unfortunately you get what you get when you order a car.
