Default New Coolant = Thermostat & Cap?

In the old days, it was somewhat common to replace the thermostat and/or radiator cap, when the coolant was replaced.

I'm getting ready for the coolant on our C6, but have heard of few thermostat/recovery cap failures on this engine (LS3). But the thermostat on our 2001 did fail (stuck open) at about 30k miles.

Suggestions?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I just did the coolant change for my `08, the drain/refill method. Ready for another 5 years.

In the "old days" I used to have the belts and hoses changed when I had work done (alternator / antifreeze, etc.) Now the parts cost more and the techs say they last longer.

Yeah, I used to change all belts and hoses at 50k miles. Now I wait until 100k and that may still be over doing it.

Shouldn't be hard to change the thermostat if that becomes necessary, just hate getting stuck on a road trip. But of course, a new one could fail also.

I have never changed a thermostat or a radiator cap until they show that they are needed ...
