Default 1 7/8 or 1 3/4 headers

I am stock now looking for more power. When I mod it will all be done at once. So here is what I'm doin for mods. My car is am ls2, I am goin to do fast 102, intake, headers and tune. My question is what size headers? I doubt I'll do any further modding. What are the advantages/ dis advantages of the two diff size headers? Also should I go no cats or high flow cats w the x pipe. I know the 1 7/8 are for more modded cars but just how much is "a lot of mods"...thanks!

With LS2 I go 1 3/4. Should provide better lower end TQ numbers.

1 3/4 will give more low end torque. 1 7/8 will give more at redline. The choice will depend on whether you want more power at low RPM or high. There is no one right answer which is why they sell both.

I eventually will go w the fast intake Mani and a CAI. Correct me if I'm wrong but the FAST gives higher numbers though the curve (peak) so wouldn't it be better to get 13/4 to have the low end to go w it

LS2: For increased torque in 90% of your driving RPM range, the 1 3/4" primary will be better. You will immediately feel the torque increase when you first drive it.

If you are drag racing only, or if you plan additional future mods like increased displacement or aftermarket cylinder heads, then get the 1 7/8" primary headers now so you don't have to change them later.

A more important detail is to get a quality set of stainless headers, preferably made in the USA. I prefer with cats, as the new hi-flow cats have almost no affect on power.

1 3/4 for sure on the LS2, especially if its an auto and you dont plan on gearing it or going much more on power/rpms/etc

not to mention the fit is so nice and easy too

Default Size

First and foremost you need to talk to a dealer. It can be Kooks, LG, or American Racing Headers. Thats where you start. I was asked what size of exhaust do I have. I said Corsa Sports with 2-1/2 diameter. He told me good then you can go with 1-7/8 because you'll have low end TQ with that set up. Where as If you had 3 inch exhaust you need to go with 1-3/4. Like I said don't take my word for it call the dealer of your choice and talk to him or her to answer your question for the set up you so desire. Yes, I started here on the forum who filled my head with all the right questions to ask and I'm thankful. I then went to a dealer from that point. I'm pleased with my results. I have American Racing Header that are long tube with Corsa Sports Exhaust. She talks when asked and runs pefect. No complaints.

Powertech recommended 1 7/8" ARH for my LS3 A6. I don't see any big dip in torque. Other mods are Halltech, & Tune with a stock NPP exhaust.

I was 422 both rwhp and Tq with 1 3/4 on a MN6 LS3.

Included was a tune,160 degree stat and a Vararam intake.

Driving redline on the street is just crazy.

The torque is king for the street.

Haven't had a LS2, but ARH 1-7/8's worked well for my N/A LS3 MN6.

Just got off the phone w American racing and they asked me what I was planning to do. Told them, FAST intake mani, a CAI and they recommended the 1 3/4 and said the 1 3/4 are good for low end tq and throttle response. So 1 3/4 it is thanks!
