Default Service Active Handling System

For the 5th or 6th time, my 2008 went into "Limp Mode". The Service Active Handling System and Tracking System messages displayed. The Control Module was replaced and I still have this issue.

BTW... I had a PAL (Personal Audio Link) installed; can't recall if the first Limp Mode experience was before or after installation (I'm looking to that).

If anyone can assist with possible scenarios as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

I had this happen a couple of times on my early build 2008. Service Active Handling error on DIC with traction control and security lights on (is your security light on?). When I scanned it with AutoEnginuity, it showed a "U1000 Class 2 Data Link Malfunction" under the Body Control Module section. Under warranty dealer restrung wiring to steering angle sensor in steering column which solved the problem.

When I had my '09 Coupe, this happened and they had to pull it out of my garage to take it to the dealer. Dealer said that the Control Module was corroded and needed to be replaced.

Had the same problem on my 2008. Installed the problem solver part GM made for the models with telescopic steering wheel (even though mine doesn't have one) and in the year since, it has never happened again. Do search for the little orange wedge for the electrial connector under the steering column.

I had this problem once on my 07 Vette. I had the control module replaced and it never returned.

RYK24,

Have you been back to your dealership to have this diagnosed again?

Yes. They replaced the VCIM about 3 months ago and now they are replacing the BCM. They're telling me it may have something to do with the PAL, since this issue didn't start until after the PAL installation.
