Drive vs Sport mode 2013 Coupe
Hey all! Thoroughly enjoying my first week of Vette'-hood.
Was wondering can you tell a difference between the sport mode and regular Drive? I was poking around the net, and noticed some folks drive their Vette all the time in sport.
noticed the Manuel says sport mode has more 'noticeable up shifts for a sportier performance". Any thoughts!?
Just wanted your opinion, I know I there is a break in period too for the new engine so I don't want to push it yet, but was thinking of testing it out real easy. How does it affect gas mileage? Can I drive in sport mode and not use the paddle shifters ??
I will get some pics up thIs weekend after I clean her off from the first week !

Yes, you can drive in either D or S with paddles or without paddles. The paddles do operate a bit differently in D and S. S mode without paddles is a more spirited version of D that revs more and it is very noticeable to me, not to mention more fun. I drive in S mode all the time, use the paddles most of the time except when cruising. I would guess the majority of forum folks use S mode exclusively. Gas mileage would be better in D, but I have no idea how much better -- probably not enough to worry about.
The owner's manual has some good info on this subject.

S mode is indeed 'sportier' as per the manual's description, and no you don't have to use the paddles.
You probably could get a little better mpg in D mode, but if you drive 'gently' in S, I think you could get a similar mpg.
One feature on the newer cars is that you can briefly use the paddles in D and it will return to auto after about 10 seconds.
If you are going for maximum acceleration through the gears, leave it in S auto. It takes quite a bit of practice to upshift using the paddles at full throttle and not hit the rev-limiter. You have to shift a bit early and if the tires are spinning/slipping, the car won't let you shift.
It's a lot of fun testing these features. Just be safe.
And congrats on the new car.

Thanks for all the replies and insights. I will be testing this S mode out the next time I take her for a spin! Glad I am across this in the manual or it could have been a while before I ever noticed it !

Ok ok don't rub it in ! It's my first sports car , I had been driving a Toyota 4Runner since I was 16 (I'm 29 now). This new power and torque is a whole new world for me, and it's awesome!
I plan on keeping my coupe for a couple years, then getting into a manual after my my wife teaches me how to drive a stick ! If things go well and I continue to enjoy this car, I could see upgrading to a Z06 , then ill have to man up!

If you back off the gas after accelerating to third ( someone
pulls in front of you)the S mode will hang in third like a
manual or like using the paddles. In D mode if you do the same
it will shift up and coast.
