Default Can't Move Automatic Shifter

Anyone else ever have this problem? I have a 2005 automatic with 20K miles on it now. I've had it since new and recently the shifter has started locking up in park every now and then. I have to turn the engine off and restart a time or two and/or smack the button on top of the shifter before it will move. Is this an electrical or mechanical problem? What's the fix? Of course the dealer's service department doesn't have a clue.

It's a common problem, I ended up cutting the plastic "tab", that locks the mechanism, off with a Dremel Tool. Now the shifter acts just like the original one in my '82.
