Need Help with Dot Matrix Tinting in SW/Central Oklahoma
I took my C6 to have the windows tinted with 20% tint. They did a nice job overall, but I don't like the way the dot matrix area looks on the back glass. I read other posts and thought I would take it back to them and ask them to removed the tint on the dot matrix and put vinyl on it instead. They said they would do it, but then called me back and said I would have the same problem with the vinyl and that the heat in the summer would cause other problems with the vinyl. I've also read forum threads where people don't have any problem at all with the vinyl, as well as posts about sanding the dot matrix down or painting that area of the glass. So, here's my question...can the dot matrix area be treated in a way that actually looks great, and if so, who can I trust in SW or central Oklahoma to fix my problem? Thanks!

As I've said many times here, it's all in the prep work. If they scuffed (3M green scuff pad) the dot matrix well before application, it will look great and last a long time. If they did not, it will look like crud and come loose eventually. They will have to re-tint the entire window to get it right. It requires more work and also quite a bit of dry time and re-squeegeeing involving VERY CAREFUL use of a heat gun in order to assure good adhesion. You should expect to pay MORE for it to be done this way, it really does take quite a bit more time. Many shops will not put in the required time and attention to do this right, they just cut vinyl and call it good. Nothing wrong with vinyl, it's certainly an option, just not one that I would choose.

Good luck, you will find the right place if you try. Make sure that you have the detail on HOW they are going to do it before you sign off on it. Most reputable shops have photo albums of many of their tinted cars, certainly they will have a Corvette in their book. If not, be worried. The Corvette is not an easy tint job. You don't want them to practice on your car!

Post up in the Southwest thread and you will get some response, I know there are several good tint guys in OKC, one is Auto Accessories Unlimited in Norman. In the Southwest section you will find more feed back.

Jackie Cooper Electronics on NW 63rd and NW Expressway did mine back in 2009 and im pretty happy with it.
Also i believe Jaygood knows some people who do really good jobs. Check with him or in the NCCO thread in SW section too.

I'm located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. How close are you?? I had mine done by a local shop & am happy with it... If you are close you are more than welcome to take a look at it. I've had several cars done at this same shop & never any problems....

Thanks for the replies! Just got home, but earlier this evening I stopped by a place that seems to know their stuff and has done some really sharp work. They said the only way to make it flawless for the long haul is to paint the dot matrix area. I'm considering that. Also, I live in the Lawton area, so Bartlesville is a bit of a haul, but if you're up for it, come on down and see me! haha!

I had window tinting installed on my Vette in June. The installer ( Auto Accessories in Norman ) came highly recommended from a guy that hangs out in the Southwest section of this forum. They did a great job on the installation and I don't have any problem with the tint and the dot matrix.
I would recommend Auto Accessories.
