compnine only has GM VINs through 2010, according to the disclaimer at the top of their demo page. Is your car newer than that?

The VIN will link back to the configuration at GM; that's to say that if you give a service department the VIN, they can tell you the build details. But it's not coded into the VIN directly.

Starting with 2010 GM began coding 1LT, 2LT and the model etc into the VIN.

The fifth digit denotes model/equipment.

I'll use mine as an example. The fifth digit is V. V=GS 2LT Auto.

Hope this helps.

This is for the fifth digit on a 2010 and up

A 1LT MT
B 2LT MT
C 3LT MT
D 4LT MT
E 1LT AT
F 2LT AT
G 3LT AT
H 4LT AT
J Z06 1LZ
K Z06 2LZ
L Z06 3LZ
M ZR1 STD
N ZR1 3ZR
P GS 1LT MT
R GS 2LT MT
S GS 3LT MT
T GS 4LT MT
U GS 1LT AT
V GS 2LT AT
W GS 3LT AT
X GS 4LT AT

The Black Book shows K and L as a 2LZ. I just followed the progression and changed L to 3LZ.

Hope this helps. Edit This only applys to cars built for the US. The fifth digit will be a 9 for a non US car

Okay, hadn't ever seen that before. Thanks.

Works for the VIN for my 012. Got a "G" and it has the 3LT option package.

<smacks forehead>

I knew this, when I got my car I noticed the 427s use 'Z'. Why I didn't remember it is another thing.

Those 2 are wrong on my car. The 5th is a 'T', but somebody posted a correction on that already.
On the 7th, my car has a 'D', so something changed too. No more airbags than before, but maybe pretensioners or something else ('12 GS 4LT here).
