Battery Water?
my 2012 gs battery looks like you can pop off the caps to check the level.question is are you supposed to pop off the caps or does it look like the caps come off but it is really sealed.

The factory battery on our 2009 was not sealed. There were two caps, each cap covered 3 cells.
After a year or two I very carefully pried off the caps, verified that the electrolyte level was normal, and then put them back in place. No problem.
The replacement Delco we have now looks similar, but I haven't messed with it.

My '09 has the caps. First time i took them off noticed the acid was low in several cells. Used distilled water to bring it up to the correct level. I check the level about twice a year.

Can you? Yes. More than likely so you can check the specific gravity of the solution with a hydrometer. Should you add fluid? No. It's billed as a maintenance free battery and thats exactly what it is.

I would add water if the cells are exposed. Maintenance free or not!

This is at least battery related. I had to laugh when I found a sealed AAA battery looking kinda out out of place in the one owner 06 I found at Jimmy Vasser Chevrolet in July. In reading over the complete service history I noticed they had recommended that the PO have it replaced some time back. Apparently he didn't and had to call AAA to get started one day. Except for that one item, every service/warranty interval was accounted for and performed by the dealer he bought it from and traded it back into. Nice having that kind of verification of the car's history.

I used distilled water years back, over time stated using regular tap water. Discovered it really didn't make any difference, tap water batteries last 5 to 6 years.

The tap water issue really becomes an issue when it has things in it like...minerals. The minerals will create a "short" in the battery killing it very quickly. Do not risk it and put in distilled water or deionized water. It's cheap and will work.
