Default Water Spot Removal

A couple of years ago I unknowingly parked my Vette near a water sprinkler system and although I didn't realize it until later, the water dried on my car leaving a lot of water spots and mineral deposits. It took several washings and Zaino treatments to get rid of them over at least 3 months. Well, this year right after Christmas wifey & I went with friends to a nice resort in Marco Island FL and I did it again. I parked next to a sprinkler system for a couple of nights and my Vette looked like a leopard even worse than the first event. But, this time, when I got home and washed the car, I added a half of cup of white vinegar with the car wash. Yep, all the spots came right off and no, it didn't remove the Zaino! Amazing stuff! If you ever have water and mineral deposit spots, try it. It really works.

Detailers will tell you that they have to do an "acid wash".
Vinegar is a mild acid (CH3CO2H). You CAN do it yourself.

You know we use white vinegar to clean the automatic coffee maker, but never really thought about it working on the water spots (mineral deposits) on the car. Thanks good to have this sitting back in the corner of my brain.

Thank for the tip, try out on wife's car, since our complex sprinklers wash everything but water the grass.

A half cup of vinegar to how many gallons? I have the same problem and haven't dealt with it yet. Thanks for the great tip!

I wish this was posted yesterday before I spent hours removing water spots from my C6. I will try it next time.
Thanks for the tip.

Vinegar is about 8% acetic acid. Most hard water deposits are calcium - mild acid dissolves those. Works great to clean windows also. Anyone who has a boat and runs in "hard water" knows all about vinegar.

Did the dumbass thing myself this summer. I have an automatic sprinkler system, and it runs in zones, I have a lot of yard. On a 90+ degree day I left mine out in the driveway while I was helping a neighbor work on his Cobra kit for a couple hours. The sprinklers came on, (fortunately I always leave the windows up) and the sun baked the water spots on the car. I pulled it in the garage and got out the clay bar, took every spot off both the paint and the windows, lesson learned.
