Default Any issues parking a GS in a 1 car garage?

Does anyone park their Gran Sport in a 1 car garage? I'm wondering if the wider body make that much more of a difference..I currently have a C5 parked in mine but would trade it in on a new GS..My space is limited as is with the C5 & don't want to bring a car home that won't fit..

A GS isn't appreciably wider than a C5. The C6 coupe is actually narrower than a C5 to begin with. You won't have any issues.

It is usually the people trying to get in and out of the C6 that are too wide. Two thirds of Amercans are overweight or obese. The mirrors and open doors on a G/S aren't any wider than on the coupe, and these are the determining factors, not the flared fenders.

So the wider fenders & quarter panels don't make the GS or Z06 any wide than a base C6?

GS is 2.5 inches wider than base model. I'm sure you will have no problem in a one car garage. Use padding along the wall where the doors open against.

A tape measure to measure both the car and the garage would probably do the trick. Just saying.......................

The only problem is that your GS will get lonely in a single stall garage.

You knock the mirrors off before you hit the wider fenders, and the distance across the mirrors is the same for ALL C6's at 82-5/8". You open the door of any C6 in the garage and it's not the wider fenders that are hitting the garage wall, it's the edge of the door.

The widest part of any car is usually the side view mirrors. On the C6, the side view mirrors are in the same location on all models (correct me if I am wrong). And the wider fenders on the GS or the Z06 does not stick out pass the side view mirrors.

So if a C5 or base C6 can fit within the standard opening of a garage, the GS and Z06 models can too.

Thanks for this info, and for the question from the op as I am concerned about this as well.

The info I have is 73.6" wide for the C5, 75.9" wide for the C6, and now you add the important number of 82 5/8" to the mirrors.

If your C5 fits in your single garage ok....you will have no problem with the C6 GS fitting in.

I don't know about the OP, but I was referring to getting the wider car in the garage, not opening a door when in there.

As stated the mirrors are the widest point. If the mirrors barely clear the door and the gargage space itself isn't much larger, common sense says why park the car if you can't open the door.

Most people open their doors when they get out of the car. And as was said, the mirrors are the widest portion and they are the same on both types of Vettes.

**EDIT** Was typing my response when Saplumr posted his.

I don't see what the problem is, just crawl out of the back and shut the hatch. You don't need no stinking doors.

So if you have an unusual 8 ft garage door Vs the standard 9 ft door the car will fit through the door with no issues. 82 5/8 inch wide car will easily drive through a 96 inch opening with a couple of inches to spare on each side. If you have the standard 9 ft door you won't even have to watch what you are doing.

Standard door here and I pull in with no worries all of the time. you just have to go slow to judge the mirrors, but there is room.

FYI, Window Valet will make getting in/out of car in a 1 car garage easier. Easier to get in and out with window down.
