New sexy Texas custom plates - experience with myplates site
I hope people don't think I'm bragging too much by posting this - just sharing my experience with getting a custom plate in TX (again).
From 2008-2010 I had '7LITER' registered as a texas plate -- process was smooth clean, and reasonably priced. All done through the local tax office.
Fast forward to now - after a while in storage I'm getting my Z back on the road and looked into getting a custom plate again.
Turns out the state how now outsourced and contracted with a 3rd party (myplates.com) to fulfill all custom aspects of plates in the state. Not sure how it is for other states.
You can guess what happened to the prices -- of course they went up. I was surprised to see after these years passing that '7LITER' is still available. They tier the pricing system - 6 letters/numbers is ~200 a year, it gets much cheaper if you buy the 5 or 10 year package. I didn't want to lock myself into this just yet (and I don't feel like blowing 500 dollars NOW for a plate I might not need or want years later)
They have a lotta cool designs - here's the one that will be coming my way in about 3 weeks:
Love it because my Z is velocity yellow -- will be getting a color matched frame. Hoping the color on the plate is a close match (not holding my breath) but it will be far cooler looking than a big old white plate in the back no matter what!
I think the old way of doing it cost me around 150/year. With their new outsourced way of doing thing - getting dinged for another 50 dollars sucks but at least I'm getting a pretty cool plate background that will go with my yellow car

Good looking plate.
Don't worry about the cost, any money spent on mods that makes you happy is money well spent.

In Oklahoma they don't have as big a variety of special plates to pick from (like Texas has) but there are quite a few. I think they are probably more expensive than a personalized plate. I have personalized plates on each of my vehicles and they are only $21.50 per year renewal or $23.50 for a new/replacement. Not too expensive...

I'm at work -- I have the exact site bookmarked at home. Will probably order in a week or two, it was something like 70 dollars for a color matched frame. Will look killer against my Z vs the existing standard chrome "Z06" frame.

I ordered one a week ago. There were lots of different styles, but I chose to keep it simple and go with a black plate and white Texas star. I printed one out to see how it would look on the car and I loved it. I also chose the 3-letter/2-number option...5yrs, $225 plus regular registration. I figure 5 years is long enough being that the C7 may have grown on me by then.

When they first offered 7 and 8 letters they had an auction. Some of the prices were crazy!!!
I remember when TX speciality plates were just a few dollars more than the standard one. No way I would pay $200 above the $70 standard plate.
OP your plate looks great! I would love to have a white/black one on my car. Should get new plates this yr, hope I can get them.

Cool plate, a bit on the high side price wise, but it is only money.

I used to have personalized plates too. I think they were about $25 above normal cost. To me, $150-200 is too much to pay for plates...on top of the $68.00 registration fee every year.
To OP...I like your plate, but I wouldnt buy one.
