How do I remove the Air Filter on an LS3???
Just got back from a trip where I ran through a pretty hairy dust storm.
I hate to admit it, but I can't figure out how to remove and check the air filter.
Can anybody help?

I think there are latches down at the bottom where the filter is.For me it was just as easy to unscrew the air bridge at the throttle body and take the thing out that way.

I had the same question and have not inspected it because of the long interval suggested for replacement. As the previous post suggested I looked at the manual and on page 5-25 of the 2008 manual it provides a description of how to remove and inspect the filter, which I now intend to do myself.
Thanks for getting me motivated,

Thanks Modshack! That's what I needed.
For what it's worth, I checked the owners manual and contrary to an earlier post, it DOES NOT describe how to remove and inspect the filter.
Page 5-25 has an illustration of what the housing looks like under the hood and merely says not to spray water in it. That's not particularly helpful.
Page 5-14 shows an underhood illustration and mis-identifies the rear of the radiator housing as the Air Filter. That's absolutely all there is about the air filter in the manual.
I also have the complete shop manual set of three volumes. I've read every entry in the index and there is absolutely no reference to the air filter whatsoever!
I'm a newbie to the LS3, but I've had plenty of experience doing my own maintenance on many vehicles over many years. I'm going to remember this experience and hold my smart a$$ tongue the next time I see what looks like a stupid question. Others should do the same!
-- And thanks again Modshack!

Along with info above you should have no problems.
forget the negative post regardless of how many stars they have.
How to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filters
To inspect the air cleaner/filters, remove the filters from
the vehicle and lightly shake the filters to release
loose dust and dirt. If the filters remain caked with dirt,
new filters are required.
To inspect or replace the engine air cleaner/filters, do
the following:
1. Remove the screws holding the filter element in
place.
2. Pull on latches found on either side of the filter.
3. Inspect or replace the filter. See Maintenance
Replacement Parts on page 6-13.
4. Reverse Steps 1 and 2 to replace the air
cleaner/filter cover.

Almost all members on this forum are great people. I have learned a lot on this forum. And when it comes time to change my air filter I'm going to pull up this thread.

This thread reminds me how nice it was in the OOOOOOLD days. Back when I was a teen and driving around in my Camaro 396 replacing the air filter was pretty easy. First you unscrewed ONE thumb screw. Then you lifted off the round chrome lid. Then you lifted out the circular air filter element and replaced it with a new one.
One thumb screw.
Is that funky lookin boxy thing connected by the small little pipe to the right new? I don't recall seeing it on my 05 , but then, I seldom have need to open the hood. But what on earth does that do dad do?
