Got a C6 LS3 with manual box? What's your MPG around town?
I have my new '13 GS LS3 for 5 days now, and have driven it 107 miles. Following the break-in procedures, I've not exceeded 3,500 rpm.
All of my driving has been around town, in stop & go traffic, and occasionally cruising in 5th gear, at 45 mph, for brief periods of 5 or 6 miles.
The car is showing me 11.7 mpg. Realizing that the engine is still new, and tight, I'm guessing that I can expect about a 10 ~ 15% increase after it's broken in, is that reasoning correct?
If so, it would bring me to about 13 mph. Still pretty bad.
There are many threads devoted to discussing gas mileage, but they all place the emphasis on the best possible extended highway mileage.
I have not found any comparisons of normal every day around town driving. Don't misunderstand. I didn't buy this car expecting good gas mileage. However, I did expect to be around the 15 ~ 16 MPG mark set by GM.
I was wondering what others are experiencing with the same car, in similar around town driving?
Thanks in advance for your input.

The DIC is not very accurate. I have a 2013 GS manual and I am getting around 15 with spirited city driving.
Seriously, I didn't buy this car for high gas mileage. I have fun everytime I drive it and that is all that matters to me.
Best way to measure mileage is to use the trip meter from fill-up to fill-up.

Thanks for your responses. Do you recall what increase you saw after your engines were broken in? I'm guessing at 10% to 15%, am I in the ball park?

DIC is tool, puts one in the ball park.
Have you tried using the 'Instantaneous MPG' function?
I use it driving my LS7, tells me where/when I'm using the most fuel.
Due to my driving style, and living around country highways I realize great MPG for a LS7.
After its parked, 'AverageMPG' tells me what I spent.
But man if I had to city drive an LS7? I dunno.
These HP LS engines consume fuel doing what they do, one pays for it & there's no way around it. Extending MPG can be manipulated via modified driving habits. But start-n-stop driving's a killer, regardless.
Hope you see the 15% after its broken-in.
Keep us posted.

The DIC isnt accurate. Calculate the mileage by hand and you will see a much higher number. the DIC calculates mileage based on how long the car is on vs miles actually driven. Idling will kill MPG according to the DIC.

Thanks!
I can't agree. My wife's 2011 Nissan Maxima, was consistently averaging 18 mpg when the car was new. After a few thousand miles it was averaging 19.7 mpg, and still is today. My son's Camry increased about 10% after approx. 2,000 miles. Other folks have told me the same thing.
I do thank you all for your input.

I have 58,000 miles on my 09 Coupe now and get around 28 mpg on highway, and an overall average of 22-23 mpg mixed highway-town-cruising-....
When the car was new I indeed had the impression mpg was a little less, say 21-22 mpg, but it didn't change a lot.
I do also compare my DIC with the real numbers I get at the pump, and I must say it matches pretty close IMHO. I don't do any parades or such, so there won't be too much idling in my car.

22.5 pretty much the average for more than 10,000 miles of combo driving.(rural and small city driving) DIC shows about 3/4th mpg better than actual for me. I always use manual calc..Also the 2012 ls3 and my ls2 that was in my 07 gets almost the exact same mileage in combo driving...the 07 got 22.7

A Comment on the DIC & City Driving.
I picked my 6 Speed GS up in Dec 2012 from the museum and it is my daily driver. So far it has 4800 miles with about 2500 of those being city driving. Despite what others have said my DIC is fairly accurate meaning it is withing about 10% (~2mpgs) of my hand calculations. I think it is because I put a lot of highway miles on my car when I first got it and I reset: Speed, Trip A, and Avg MPG; every time I fill up. Also when I loosely follow the recommended shifting speeds (15, 25, 40) for the first four gears I see an improvement in my day-to-day consumption.
FYI: I drive 11 miles one way through traffic to work everyday. Also it is a good idea to get an alignment if you want your tires wear evenly.
City ~17.5MPG
Highway @ 80: 23MPG

Well for my LS7 I do about 50 miles highway and 10 miles city daily. I can average about 270-300 miles to the tank. That's with the occasional spirit runs. Comes out on my DIC to around 20/21mpg.

While I do appreciate everyone's input, I would ask that you please give me your mileage, as relates to local, around town, stop and go, driving only. City/Highway, all highway, averages doesn't help me....thanks.
