Clear bra on black
My detailer is going to start offering clear bra installs & told me of this last week while my car was there:
It is the current non orange peel, "self repairing" type, the latest clear materal offered.
I've heard that clear bras do not look so good on black, but I have neve seen pics.
My questions are:
Has anyone here with black had one done?
How does it look?
Is there a shine difference between the non clear & clear parts of the car?
Got pics?
Info & pics don't need to be a Corvette. I want to know what I can look forward to before I drop a G+ on getting the nose, fenders, hood, mirrors & lights done.
I've got pals with red Corvettes dones, & you can't tell it is there, but I know black is a bit more "less forgiving" when it comes to imperfections.
Thanks

I don't have a black car but I've seen ClearBras on them and think you'll be happy with the results. Like on any color, edge lines will be slightly visible from a few feet away but you can easily minimize that be not allowing dried wax to remain on the edges of the material. We have ClearBras on all three of our cars and I've had them on my past several cars as well. I'll never own another car without it.
I know it's a far cry from black but here's my Machine Silver coupe with ClearBra. The variations in the shine are due to light angles, not the ClearBra.

Going to talk to an installer of Scothguard Paint Protection tomorrow. I think I just want the front bumper done. I'll see if he will cut me a deal with doing the paint protection and 35% window tint.

It will be as good as your installer, My Z06 is black and I had it installed when new. There are people on here that like it and some who don't. Just make sure your installer has experience with corvettes.

I'm on my 3rd black car and you'll only notice the lines if you don't complete a section i.e. the hood. Doing he nose and not the hood is the secret IMO. I had the rockers and rear brake ducts done on my Z06 and you can see the line there but it's so worth it compared to the sand blasting you'll get otherwise....mirrors too.

You'll notice a difference if you are really into detailing your Vette like Wolfdogs. Nothing is better than actual paint. Actually clear bra is harder to see on darker colors.

I had my black 2013 convertible done. Like others have said you can see the line if you look from the windshield down toward the nose. The $ spent getting it done may reap some $ when you sell the car. IMO

Had it on my black one. You really don't notice it unless you're looking for it. I was very glad I had it because you notice it a lot less than you notice a big chip or scratch on your paint. I have it on my white one now too.

Had it on my 08 took it off because you could see all of the nicks and bug juice would not come off looked like the surface was marred- nothing better than good wax.

I have a black vette with a Clear bra and i had an 07 with the clear bra. the only thing you can see is the line if you only do half the hood and fenders. I will do the whole hood and fenders on my next black car so there is no line. The clear bra is the only way to fly.

Got my price.....For the paint protection (forget the brand he will use) nose, mirrors, and front of rear wheels $400. Comes with a 10 year warranty.
Window tint 35% Llumar ATR $179. Lifetime warranty.
They do work for the museum.

I would check the brand. $400 is real cheap for what you mentioned. Otherwise you might be pissing money down the drain as I'm sure the warranty probably has a few exemptions.

Butchn - I had almost my whole '12 GS Centennial (Carbon Flash Metallic - ie - black metallic) covered with a clear bar. Search my threads and you'll see pix, info, etc. I was VERY happy with it. I saw "was" as I just traded it Saturday but will be going with a clear bra on the new one.

A have a carbon-flash CE, and you'll always be able to tell the difference. But it's not noticeable to most, especially if you do the whole front, like I did. That's the price you pay for protection. The guy from out of town who did my car didn't do a good job, so have many blemishes. But again, most are only noticeable if you get up close. If you don't live in a dusty place, and installed does a good job, it should be hardly noticeable if you do the entire front (no immediate contrast, like a hood half done). At the end, the piece of mind is well worth the slight difference. Plus remember after a few rock chips your front is not going to look that pretty . Good luck.

Thanks guys.
I plan on doing the whole front end as teh 18" up on the fenders & hood look dumb, IMO.
And, lots of black car been done replies, but I see no pics!

I had the entire front end done, both for the added protection as well as no lines. In addition I had the side skirts, rocker panels (I installed the side skirts over the protected rocker panels), the lower ~6" of the doors, and the rear fenders (including around the rear brake ducts) done. Here's a few pics so that you can see the shine on the fender and hood vs the upper portion of the door is virtually the same...
