Radar Detectors - Recommendation

With the Valentine, I have detected Laser very far in front of me because it is being used on other cars. So you don't have to "run with a rabbit," you just have to have a Valentine that will detect it a good distance away. "Instant On" means nothing if you detect it early while being used on cars way ahead of you.

V1. Saved my bacon more times than I care to admit. Since buying the Vette I'm getting tired of transferring back and forth between the daily driver and my Bimmers. So getting ready to buy another one.
One cool attribute to the V1 is that you can send the unit back to the manufacturer for a flash programming update.

That is the other V1 plus- they hold their value. When you want to upgrade it almost works better to sell your old unit and buy the new refurb/return and break even or almost break even.

Not sure about NJ but in GA, I have a V1 and if there are not other cars ("rabbits") on the road with you then you are the only target and your radar detector is just a ticket notification device BTW, my V1 has picked up laser in time for me to react and avoid a ticket. I have my V1 set to 'a'll for other radar so I can make a decision and screen the alert. If I detect instant on on the highway, you can believe I am down to within ~9 mph of the speed limit QUICK

Sounds like a road trip It also depends what time you are traveling, I drive on some roads/highways between GA/TN/NC that are completely empty late night/early am.

Here's a video that clearly shows how to correctly use a detector (any detector) and the results of using it the right way. Read the full explanation before watching the video.
And one more of instant-on radar in Nevada...note the time from the first warning to the source of the radar...

I just ran into a situation last weekend where my V1 didn't help. I was on my way to an open house fishing weekend at the NJ State fish hatchery in the Appalachians. I got off a 55 mph highway onto a two-lane winding blacktop country road with no speed limit signs, which means 50 mph. There was no other traffic around, and I was doing WAAAY over 50. All of a sudden, while rounding a curve over a hill, there's a 25 mph sign and the V1 sounds off. BRAKES !! LEO clocked me at 46 mph with his instant-on. He was sitting in a parking lot about 300-400 yards down the road, which was still winding & up-and-down, but had a clear shot at the top of the hill I was on. He obviously knew where to sit. This time, the PBA card worked, where the V1 didn't. After he told me he wasn't giving me a ticket, he said once he saw my black Corvette, he pulled the trigger immediately because he knew I would be having fun and way over the speed limit.

You'll get a ton of good responses on the subject. But keep in mind, the best one for you is going to be based on what you need it for. If you're planning on speeding on the interstate where State patrol uses more sophisticated equipment such as instant on radar and front and rear speed detection on their moving unmarked pursuit vehicles, there is one type of radar detector that is better suited for that. Urban density also plays into what detctor is best in terms of warning for speed detectors cameras and false alarms.
Me? I like to get my ya yas out on rural county highways in low traffic situations so I'm more likey to be contending with the county sheriff's speed detection set up. I'm still trying to find out what detector is best suited for that situation.
Bottom line, think about the driving situations in which you think you are going ro need radar detection the most and filter the recommendations accordingly.
Good Luck!

I am a mechanical idiot and I installed the DT unit and it works just fine. Only issue is seeing either the DIC or the HUD display while wearing sunglasses (polarized lenses are the culprit). Otherwise
