Help me read a CarFax?
http://www.carfax.com/cfm/FSBO.cfm?r...HistorySection
It's a good looking GS coupe that I'm interested in, but I have some questions about the CARFAX. Most notably that there is a recall open on it. Normally I wouldn't worry too much about that, but when I look at the description of the recall it says:
Recall # 2011258
REAR HATCH SEPARATION IN CRASH
Now that doesn't leave a lot to the imagination, but if the car was wrecked, why the heck is it a "recall"?
I googled the recall number but couldn't find any information. What do you guys think?
Thanks!!

That's not saying the car crashed. It's a GM recall because in the event of a crash, the hatch may separate. Its a faulty hinge, dealer can take care of it if it isn't done.

"In honor of jpee"
The above sounds reasonable. It also could be a misnaming of the delamination issue with the roof. Seems a bit of a stretch tho.
Why not call and ask the original dealer service manager where that is listed?

I agree, it means "in the event of a crash" x,y and z may happen....
I'm curious to know why 3 owners, but two of them just a couple months apart... The second owner owned if for a few months??

Could be a red flag, but maybe not. Dealers are sometimes listed as owners on a carfax. Sometimes multiple dealers if it is bought and sold at auction. The 2nd owner is most likely a dealer. Assuming this is a private sale, it is probably a 2 owner vehicle. If its a dealer, it may even be a one owner with 2 dealer owners since.

It is a recall that almost all 2011/12 GS models went through. The hatch hinges were replaced under warranty. Took all of 30 minutes for the dealer to replace the hinges on mine.
