Default I Got Screwed....Again!

Darn it! I got screwed again. Second time in 4 months! Hopped in the car to enjoy the commute home from work and the DIC gave me the bad news. 16PSI in the right rear. Thankfully the tire place that fixed it last time hadn't closed for the day. $25 and all was well again.

That sucks. At least it was repairable.

When I moved into my home over 12 years ago, the subdivision was still rather new with a lot of home under construction. I bet in a years time. I either got a nail or screw once a month. Thank goodness I didnt own a vett back then.

Safety first, better to find out the way you did rather than 100+ on the way home......and you got off cheap!

I picked up a nail the other day in my right rear tire. The nail is on the outer shoulder of the tire and the tire dealer said a repair cannot be made since it is on the outer tread. I have 20,000 on the tires but still have 6\32" of tread depth remaining (original tread depth was 10/32"). So I don't want to buy one new tire. I would rather just put a new set on, but I am not excited about doing that since my tires still have good tread depth left.

Anyone got a Bridgestone Potenza in a rear GS size they want to sell?

Either buy 2 and keep one spare or sell that one tire on the forums. You might get screwed again and need a spare, or some one might need it.

You're not short of options!

if you are going to knock on wood that this hasn't happened to you, you better keep it away from the car.

I ride my bicycle a lot around the neighborhood streets and am consistently stopping to pick up nails and screws off the streets. It is astounding just how often I have to stop. Sometimes it appears as if the offending tire damaging materials were thrown out on purpose along the street.

At any rate I am never in need of nails for fence mending etc.

Sheet metal screw! You were very close to not being repairable. GY store told me if it's outside those straight side grooves then not repairable.

Another little aspect of the story I forgot to share: Once I gave up my FOB at the tire repair shop counter, I began my ritual of pacing around the showroom and watching my car like a hawk.

The guy assigned to do the repair comes out with his paper floor protector doily and my FOB in his hand. I've got the targa top off and the NPP fuse pulled. Now I don't care who you are, starting that car just sounds "bitchin!" It was really great just watching the guy enjoy the moment. I'm sure he's driven lots of far more expensive cars around the building, but the smile on his face let me know that he was experiencing a little bit of that Corvette magic that some of us get to experience every day. Once again I counted my blessings for being lucky enough to have this car.

After the repair, I heard the car start up again and made my way over to where I could watch. The guy put on the seat belts (for the 100 foot drive around the building) and I'm thinking, "oh great, he's going to give it a test drive!". With the NPP fuse pulled, you can hear every movement of his right foot. As he went around the building, he peeked in the door to the customer service area (I'm sure to see if I was watching), then you could hear that he was just punching it a tiny bit as he went around the building.

Now I know some of you might have been a bit irritated in that same situation, but after watching this guy initially start the car I totally understood that he was just enjoying the moment and was not interested in harming my car.

Little moments like these really make me appreciate how lucky I am to have this car (ok, I know it's not luck, I worked my *** off for this). Sure, I got screwed again yesterday....but I also got reminded that if I'm gonna get screwed at least I'm getting screwed in a Corvette!
