Default Legal way to display a front plate?

When I visited the local 3m clear bra installer he told me they now can "print" out a copy of a front plate on the clear bra material and attach it to the front bumper.
Legal or not?

It all depends on how **** the cop that pulls you over for no front plate is. Legal..I would say NO because it is not an official state plate.

I might be wrong but I wouldn't think that would be legal. What's to stop a person from making multiple print outs of the same plate and have them on any number of cars?

Let me make a copy of plates of people I hate and go run a few camera equipped traffic lights.

I have seen it done on a chrager and it looked very good, the car was black and the letters & numbers were white. As for being legal, I am not sure. As for my self I do not run a front plate, if I get caught I will just pay the fine.

NOT in Ohio.

4503.21 - Display of license plates and validation stickers or temporary license placard or windshield sticker.

* * *

(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor.

Plates in front or back must be reflective. Seeing that the plate must be perpendicular or thereabouts to the ground would also disqualify. What about letter height?

If you are willing to do do something like that and pay for it why not just save your money and go without a plate in the front. Wait and see if you get stopped. You can use your saved money to pay the ticket, that is IF you get stopped.

Although, there is a member here that has a sticker plate and posted a picture of it; unfortunately I couldn't find it. I think if you were driving by a LEO, 99% of the time they would not notice that it wasn't a real plate.

This was the only good picture I could find of "Front License Plate Sticker."

You can read the front plate thread and see many examples. Personally, I haven't had a front plate on my cars in ~15 years. I have been stopped for numerous speeding violations in my old Firebird and all but once, given a warning (along with a ticket for speeding). In the vette, I was stopped specifically for "no front plate" while traveling on a major north/south drug corridor in Texas. He touched the car like he thought the paint was wet when he walked up but the LEO was cool when he got up to the car and just gave me a warning. I call it my Super Trooper stop.

That looks great but look at how much real estate you have to work with.

Not so much on a Vette

it's a cool idea (depending on the vehicle). if you had the real plate with you i bet they'd let it slide.

I do not consider it legal but if the cop is in a good mood he might let it slide - btw the ones that I have seen don't look that good

There is absolutely nothing anybody can do to make a front plate on a Vette look attractive.

Just leave it off if you hate it that much and if you get pinched then just pay the ticket, how much could it be.

I refuse, no I absolutely refuse to wear a seatbelt. Got pulled over twice for it and only got written up once. I told the cop he could write me tickets till he ran out of paper but I still would never wear one.

Point is you have a choice run a plate or don't.

Varies by the state. Even some aftermarket mounts are illegal in some states because they are within x amount of inches of the ground.

Utah is a two plate state. I have Top Flight Reproductions removable mount. I just mount the actual mount, not the plate and its mount. I then throw the plate mount and the wing nuts in the trunk. I will mount it on those states that you know will be a pain. (Midwest, CA). Yes it is not as great looking as no plate but I rather not be bothered when I'm on vacation for something so stupid. Besides CA/IL are beyond broke and looking for revenue. IL will be lucky to get me to buy food passing thru when I go to Wisconsin. I may spend a night if I feel generous.

If you are out of your home state, can they give you a ticket for no plate? Outside of the "they can give you a ticket for anything if they want."

The Illinois State Police have always been hardasses, at least when it comes to speeders. A favorite of theirs was to set up bridge traps and you would see 5+ cars lined up getting tickets regularly between St. Louis and Springfield. In the late 90s they purchased a handful of mustangs, tinted the windows black, and would roll around town looking for people to race. I think it must have been the fastest way for the cadets to get some experience in. They can thank the Fast and Furious movies for a good source of revenue.

Pretty sure LEOs in one state can't write a ticket for violation of another state's law. I'd be amazed if most LEO's would even have a clue what other state laws are for plates or anything else.

There were a couple of Vettes at BBORR last week with the stick-on plate. Legal or not they look worse IMO than a plate mount and real plate.

We don't run plates on my Vette or the wife's Shelby and we'll happily pay the fine if we ever get a ticket, which has never happened so far.

I run a plate on my silverado, not on my LS1 Camaro. I just hated how it looked. So I paid the fine whenever a cop decided to nail me for it. Most cops wrote me a $25 parking ticket. I refused to run a plate. When I get my vette this summer, there is no way I will run a plate.

I live in the ******** that is Illinois.
