1400+ miles in my C6 this past weekend, Photo blog (Long and boring)
Friends of ours moved to Greenville SC in November and we had planned a trip to go see them for a few days. We live 30 miles West of Pittsburgh. Took the Corvette as it is the most fuel efficient vehicle we own (not to mention the most fun).
We decided we were going to leave this past Wednesday night after work and drive about half way to Wytheville Virginia and then wake up Thursday morning and drive west down through Tenn and hit the Blue Ridge Parkway in Boone/Blowing Rock NC to Asheville and then down to Greenville SC. Took a ton of pictures throughout the trip, figured I would post them all here.
We hit a massive rain/hail storm just south of Pittsburgh, ended up pulled over on the side of the highway just short of an overpass. Sat there while hail hammered the car, thank god for plastic body panels. 2 miles further south it was dry as could be.
WV
Fitting for WV...
VA
Arrived at the hotel, room right along the highway... wonderful.
330 miles worth of bugs, looked like a 14 year olds moustache.
Up early the next morning to get breakfast
Tenn
NC
Hit the blue ridge parkway with no issues, what an incredible drive and scenery
The fiancee getting some pics
Including me being an idiot?
Did I mention the scenery was incredible?
We were only able to do about an hour on the parkway before being detoured off due to construction, after following the detour for about 30 miles we decided that we would just head right to our final destination.... anybody notice anything.... weird about this? Go go corvette navigation.
Nicest rest stop ever in NC
SC
Made it to our destination without issue. The next morning I wiped 600 miles of bugs off of the front bumper.
Toys at the breakfast table with their toddler... he knows what's up.
Only bad weather of the rest of the trip in Columbia SC on Friday afternoon
Found a friend at whole foods in Simpsonville SC
At a friends office building for a tour on Saturday, pictured with their volt.
Downtown Greenville, incredible city... can't wait to go back
Found a scorpion in the garage when we got back to the house... what the hell?
Fire on Saturday night
Giant peach on the way home...
Gas mileage from Greenville SC to the New River Gorge in WV
New river Gorge Bridge
Back home
Forgot I pulled my daily beater in the garage when we left, was so tired of being in the car I left it outside instead of shuffling cars around.
Overall the trip was mostly uneventful. Saw very few cops and was able to set cruise at 80-85 for most of the trip. Got 28mpg from home to Wytheville VA. Didn't pay attention to the MPG after that due to going up and over the blue ridge mountains and driving like a douche. After being at 29.3 mpg at the new river gorge I ended up at 28.5 for the entire return home trip over 533 miles. This was the furthest trip we have ever made in the C6 and neither one of us had any complaints, we were able to jam all of our luggage in under the targa top for the second half of the trip on Thursday.

Washed the car after work today. Cleaned up nice and easy after 1400 miles of dust, bugs, grime and pollen. Chemical guys jetseal 109 ftw.

Guess the recap is boring to me because I was there :P
Only downside to the whole trip is our pet sitter didnt catch that we lost power to our saltwater fish tank in time and we ended up losing all of the fish and a piece of coral. Bummer to come home to.

Oh yeah forgot these pics... We stopped by another friends place in the Greenville area to check out his new house. A whole bunch of baby ducks walked up to the C6 to check it out then walked away across the cul de sac

Really enjoyed seeing your trip and the fantastic amount of documentation with all of the pictures. Thanks for sharing. Oh, and on your NAV the quickest route was the longest, and by a lot too...!! Very strange indeed....!! BTW, also have a yellow coupe myself. Best color of all except for those darn bugs...

Enjoyed your post. Anytime I get to do a road trip even if it's vicariously I'll go along.
