I have to cover my car at work now. I bought a covercraft cover. I was told to buy a California duster but I've read on here they aren't that great for a black car.

Any alternatives?

I just got a California Duster from WCC for $20. The one with the wooden handle. I dont see how car color can make a differrnce on how it works.

Marginal on a black car. I'm in LA and there's a LOT of pollen in the air. The CA Duster works ok but there's not the "freshly washed" look that I'd like. Nonetheless, better than having a dull dusty/yellowish looking car.

Use is on my black Z06 and my previous black cars. Works great to get off dust/pollen in between washes. I was thinking of buying a new one(mine is getting pretty dirty) and Walmart has them here for like $11 I think maybe it was $16. Regardless under $20. I just keep it in the hatch.

Okay so as long as I keep the pressure super light (just dangling)- there shouldn't be any scratches left behind?

I'm in Arizona (dusty desert) use the Cal. duster almost every day, if used properly it's a life saver, especially for my black car, have had one for many years.

I have a question which is kind of related... I have the Noah cover on my GS and I dont like covering it up all the time, because I am too lazy to put it on after every ride. I wash the car every weekend , but when it rains, I get these 'sand spots' - probably just dirt. Will the Cal duster work, or do I need to stop being so lazy? The car is Cyber Gray and this dirt shows up right after a rain (all over the car).

Correct. I've used one on two black Vettes including my current one. Just don't clean off abrasive particles like sand/dirt. Dust is really what they're used for. Black just shows swirls more than the other colors so use it lightly.

I use mine here in west Texas...the dust is horrible, so I use mine daily and before I detail spray. I agree with above, don't really see where color would make much of a difference, but black is different I hear...

I use it on my 2 red vettes & my black buick. wally world had them for $10. they work ok, not JUST WASHED CLEAN but ok. I use it before and after driving. DO NOT FORGET TO LET IT SIT ON NEWSPAPER FOR 2 DAYS BEFORE USE.

Remember it's for LOOSE DUST ! not for spots, if you can blow the dust spots off your car then the duster will work, but if you give it a couple of hard blows with your breath & the spots are still there you would have to use the duster as a light scrubber which WILL scratch the clearcoat ! ( not permanent scratches though), I use mine for light dust & loose pollen.

Won't touch them. My last Vette was black, and using those things give nothing but light scratches, but scratches none the less. I use Adam's waterless wash and micro's to keep it clean and dust free. Plus it leaves a great shine and smell. It's a bit more work (obviously) but worth it.
Unless you can guarantee that there's no big particulates in the duster fibers, throw it away.

I have had the same California duster since 1985.bought it for my black 85 vette and I still use it for my 2012 black vette.not 1 hairline on my car.the secret to not getting hairline scratches in your black paint is not to wash the car.sounds crazy,but it works for me.i do not drive my car in the rain,so I do not wash it.when I come back from a ride I go over it with my cali duster,then spray detailer with a white soft tee shirt to remove bugs.i believe by washing the car their could be contaiminets in the washing cloth/mit that puts fine hairline scratches in the clear that show up real good on black.also you must have a few good coats of wax,and wax regulary.my 2012 has 6k miles on it.i also believe GM put some real hard paint on my car because even under florescent lights,their are no hairlines.my $.02

I own black. I've tried the more delicate lambswool as an alternative to the California Duster, but it just seems to shove the dirt around into piles. Stay with the California Duster, but keep your touch light.

These guys on the forum who claim to never wash their car must live in another ecosystem or planet.

I have black vehicles,nothing beats a microfiber towel and detail spray.

I do this a lot too, but I'm talking about removing dust so my cover doesn't scratch. I can't spray my car EVERY morning (it would be nice though).
