Default Backup Camera

Just got my back up camera put on, but needing some help with the wiring part of it.

Here is a shot of what it looks like opinions are welcome on the mounting location, the other option was between the exhaust pipes:

Now for the questions...

I have the yellow RCA coming from the aftermarket stereo to the camera so that is not a problem. I threaded the wires from the camera into the bumper cover just behind the drivers tail light, and can see a yellow wire and a green/purple wire in there. I believe I have read that the green one is the power wire I hook up to correct? Also...where would be the best place to connect to a ground, one of the wires coming out of the tail lights?

I connected mine to the two wires going to the back up light. That way the camera comes on and goes off with the bu lights. Yes, green is the positive wire.

What brand is it? Would you please post a review after you get it working and tell us what you think of it?

I think it looks perfect there, good job. Pictures with a little description would be most appreciated.

Heres a pic of a Forum Member's tapping into the reverse light wire (green).

You can use the black wire for ground or tie to the grounding point on the frame directly below the passenger side tail lights. Pic-2.

For comparison, the 3rd pic shows a BMW X5 backup camera mounted just above the license plate.

Thanks for the pictures they are exactly what I needed! I will get it wired tomorrow and review the camera.

I recommend this addition to anyone considering it, very simple to do. No drilling was required for this install either, obviously would be some minor drilling if you installed under the number or something.

I have tried everything I can think of and the headunit is not showing any type of image for the backup camera. It goes into backup camera mode when I put the car in reverse, like it should, but nothing but a black screen and some words about mirror image. I thought maybe the RCA plug was possibly bad and even tried a new one with no luck... Any suggestions before I disconnect this and exchange it for a new one?

How do you run the video wire to the head unit?

I ran an RCA and just hid it up along/behind the trim from the head unit to the camera. After grounding it in several places and checking all the wiring I am almost positive there is a problem with the camera itself, looks like it will be going back.

I mounted mine between the exhaust with no issues and taped into the reverse lights for both the power and the ground. Only thing I can suggest it too recheck your power, ground, RCA connections, and to make sure your media screen has the backup camera turned on.

I just installed this one tonight.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/130631558960...84.m1439.l2649

I am finishing the "How To" video now and will post it to the youtubes tonight.

I am quite impressed.
I was sure it was going to suck by how cheap it was.

you need to connect the purple reverse wire(labeled reverse) from the radio to the positive or green wire on the reverse lights
if you don't it will never come on when car goes into reverse

I had the purple reverse wire from the HU hooked up to the green/purple wire coming off the GMOS which said it was for the reverse wire. I then had the camera positive wire connected to the green positive wire for the reverse lights in the rear of the car.

So you are saying I should have not used the green/purple wire from the GMOS and just ran a wire from the reverse lights (green wire) straight up to the head unit's purple wire?

That sounds right.

The power from the reverse light coming on is what switches the radio to change to the camera view.

Cooool,
That BMW X5 camera is just the style of what I've been looking for.

Anyone know who this forum member is?

Thanks.

The camera I purchased had the instructions for four other camera and that was one of the others pictured.
It was like 20.00 on Ebay. But you could spend more elsewhere.
I would be willing to bet that the same Chinese company makes the majority of all the backup cameras.

Like the flat panel manufacturers... One major builder a hundred different brand names.
