Default Everyone is saying I'll sell it

I know many of you have been following my thread about the deer strike and my new 427.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...to-my-day.html

Now I am constantly hearing my friends, co-workers, and even my wife saying I won't keep the car once I get it back. This is my first accident since I got my license in 1973. I'm at a loss as to why everyone thinks I'll sell it. If it is put back together properly and there are no side effects, I don't see any reason to sell. I guess they all think that the lustre has now worn off and I won't enjoy the car. All I can think about is how nice it will be to have it back home. Today is day 16 in the shop.

Did any of you that got in an accident feel like you had to sell it because it wasn't the same anymore?

If you have it one good body-shop that does extremely quality work, you will never know it was damaged. When I worked in service, I saw damaged car repaired and came into the shop for alignments after repairs, and tested drove them. They were better then new. The paint color matched up perfectly, and the only person that new was you.

Maybe it's just me but when mine gets hit I trade it. I believe your A arm broke too if this is the case is frame bent in anyway. You should be able to find a new one 427 on dealer lot say boardwalk for one with a great price.Sell yours and buy new again thats me paint after a few years will show a shade diff and if bumper requires paint and they don't add flex agent the first time its bumped it will star crack. Don't care how much they tell you it's not necessary it is. They are lazy and don't want to clean the spray gun out. I'm speaking from past experince body shops lie all the time about this.Good luck with whatever you decide.

How do you feel about your toy?? If you are in it for the long haul then it's just something that happened. If it's too much for you then get rid of it. It's not your fault and you weren't acting badly behind the wheel so keep it.

Obviously all those people telling you this have never driven a LS7.

You had mainly cosmetic damage, a good shop will make the car good as new.

I really think this is a case of it depends. If the quality of repair is exceptional AND you feel ok with the car, then no, you probably won't sell it. But, like Doug above, I've seen lots of people who buy (to them) specialty cars and if it gets damaged in a major way, it's gone. Will you do it---doesn't sound like it to me. But don't be surprised if you do.

Personally, I have gone both ways on my cars over the years---some I kept, others I sold and sooner than later.

I would guess the pople you are talking to know me, or someone like me. If I run my car off the road and screw it all up, I can live with it being repaired. If, however it gets damaged due ot no fault of my own, yes, I get it fixed, then move on to the next one. I am stubborn like that.

A few examples:
I got rear ended in my 90 vert, while sitting still turing into a golf course. I got hit soo hard I spun around into a tree. Damage totalled about ten k back then, but it was all cosmetic. Insurer played games, wanted ot use LKQ parts, then sent in crap used parts. I fought them until it was done right. Then a few weks after it was done and looked stellar, I got rid of it and moved into a 95.

I had a beautifull eddie bauer bronco back then as well. I lent it to someone while their car was in the shop. It came back with a door dink, caused during the time I wasnt driving it. I drove it to the dealer that night and got rid of it.

I had an F150 limited a few years ago. I came out of a big box store and it had about a four inch scrath dead in them middle of the dirvers sdie door. I dont know what happened ot it after that, as I took it in two night later and traded it on a platimun edition.

Hopefully you arent as stubborn as I am. its financially dumb.

I would be one that sells it and gets a new one. I have never had good luck with paint repairs in the long run. They are never as good or as durable as the factory paint.

My 06 MR vert had a damaged front fascia (shelf in garage fell and a ceramic vase hit it). Bought a MR take off from a forum member and had it installed so not to have a aftermarket paint job. Went to check on progress and the drivers side front fender was sanded getting ready for paint!! They damaged the fender somehow. Not a perfect paint job so I traded it in for my current AW 07 the very next day.

Turned out to be a good trade as my 07 has been a great car and I got more in trade for the 06 than I paid for it.

My wife hopes I never damage the AW, she knows I will trade.

Hope your repair is flawless and you have great luck with it. If not, I would trade it.

Yep... It is the stigma which goes with a crash.

For whatever reason, it seems when I have been in a crash that car or bike is sold shortly after the repairs are complete.

Most recently was a Concours 14A. It was perfect when I got it back.
But the bike had to go. I no longer was comfortable sitting on it.

Sometimes it is better to just wipe the slate clean and start over with a clear mind.

Well, why don't you wait and make the call after you get it back. No use worrying about it now, because you can't do anything about it. If the lines or paint don't match, don't accept the car, but if it all looks good and drives good, then no worries.

It is not about the lines and paint...

As the OP will find out for the first time since 1973, the car just is not the same after a traumatic crash occurred in it.

It now has negative Karma, which the next owner needs to deal with.

It might be a perfect car in every shape and form, but there will always be those thoughts in the mind of the OP when he is driving the car.
The only way to remove those thoughts is in a different car.

I'd say get another one. You know you're buddies will rag you about it (not me though...).

btw I left Karls house Sunday heading to I-10 and saw a sh!!t load of deer along the hwy. Some were right at the road grazing. You were my first thought prior to slowing way the hell down.
