Z06 vs other C6 vettes
Hello everyone. I hope this is the right section to post this in, if not, mods please move....
I used to have a 2008 Z06 and had to sell it. Now thinking about getting another Corvette. I was wondering how people felt that have had them and no longer do, if a C6 Vette(not a Z) would be "good enough" for you once you have owned a Z06? I am not bashing any Vettes here, just wondering how people felt about it after experiencing a Z compared to a non Z Vette....I would love to get back into a Z but also feel any C6 Vette is better than NO C6 Vette....
Opinions??
Thank you,
Michael

Shop around for a good deal on a used base model. If you dont like it after 6 months, sell it for a slight loss and buy a Zo6.
If you must have a new C7, only you can answer the questions of why you want a Vette.
Do you want it to impress people?
-90% of the people that will see the car wont know the difference
Do you want to impress vette people?
-Well, you will need to get a ZR1 to do that
Do you ride it hard and enjoy some track time?
-You will miss your Zo6
Do you enjoy the look and style for yourself and love to just cruse around?
-Maybe a convertible is the way to go
Do you plan on taking road holidays with it?
-The Base model has a more comfortable ride
...or any combination?

Any C6 is better than no C6.
I had a Z51 and moved to a Z06. Thought I would miss the targa top, but after driving my Z I said, what targa top? I love them both, but they are in two different worlds, They may look the same but thats where it ends. You can't compare them IMO. But my 7 liter is supercharged, so I would pass on a ZR1 at this point.

I went from a 06/Z51 with the APS-Twin Turbos to a 09 Z06. Power wise the twin turbos were awsome and stronger than the stock LS-7. The ride is harsher in the Z but on smooth roads it is fine. I do 2 or 3 HPDE's and on the track is where the Z really shines and the main reason I got mine. Although the look of the Z and the GS is more to my liking also.
If you go with a Z get one with plenty of warranty left or get the heads reworked because there is a "valve problem" with the LS-7.
Good luck.

Not sure how you used your 2008 Z06. If you did not race it, than I think a C6 will be fine and you will not miss the step down in power. But that is the issue and only you will know the answer will you miss the power, or notice the difference in your driving style.

I looked at a zo6 but they do not come with the Targa so I opted for the other performance model the Z51. The little bit more HP the zo6 has wasn't worth it for me. These are personal decisions we all need to make though. Good Luck.

Having already owned a Z06 and knowing first hand, its power, performance, and capabilities...it would be hard to step down to a base or GS. I'd suggest looking into getting back into a Z again. Last thing you want to do is have a car you didn't really want and then be wanting to trade it in all the time rather than enjoying the car.

I'm shopping for a C6 and seriously looked a Z06. When I read up on the problems with the LS7 motor I quickly changed my search back to a base with Z51. The extra HP is not worth the worries.

I briefly cross shopped both and drove both cars and went with a base (for a few personal reasons)
1.) It's my first Vette (but not first performance car) and was going to look for something to upgrade to down the road (C7 Z06 perhaps when it comes about)
2.) Targa top
3.) More street driving
4.) Sub 3500rpm the power delivery is similar (to me) and only in the upper RPM band is where you see the significant differences.
5.) The "base" is still a daily driving mid 12 sec car stock...can't really go wrong
6.) Cheaper to own/cost/insure/etc. etc. etc.
7.) I may be wrong with this comment (please correct me if I'm wrong) but the LS3 is easier to throw forced induction at than the LS7 for long term reliability. Anyways, this is so far off in the distance for me it was a non-issue (but something I thought about).

The GS is a wonderful car (stock or modified) but the benefits of supercharging any C6 really depend on how you use your car. Just in general, I have reservations about slapping a supercharger on a stock, cast-piston engine. Pushing any engine beyond its design specs can have adverse affects. That said, if used judiciously forced induction IMO is fine for most 'casual' enthusiasts. Serious Corvette road racers (almost) universally avoid forced induction.
