I think we should use the terms

coupe
convertible
GS coupe
GS convertible
427 convertible
Z06
ZR1

There is really no such thing as a base Corvette. I guess you could say "base Z06" to mean the lowest trim level of Z06, but there is no base model.

I always refer to the narrow body vette as the standard vette but I hate to tell you that the "Corvette Black Book" and a GM sales add I have from 2012 that compares the different styles does refer to them as "base corvette". Does it really matter? As was said, "A rose by another name would smell as sweet."

No it doesn't matter. Not to me anyway. It's just way to tell people HERE that you have a base, Z06, GS or ZR1. I guess a 427 can be a separate model as well. I guess the word Coupe could be substituted for Base if some don't like that word.

Actually the Corvette Black Book list the 1YY07 as a Base Corvette Coupe and the 1YY67 as the Base Corvette Convertible. The rest are listed as the GS Coupe or Convertible, Z06 and ZR1 and so on. So if you want to look it it that way there are two base models. However once any item in the available RPO codes are added, it is no longer a base model.

I currently have a 2007 with the 3LT package, Z51 Performance Package, MX0 6-speed paddle shift Automatic, U3U AM/ CD, Nav, XM Bose system, C2L Duel Removable Roof Panels and the 80U Monterey Red paint option. So some may call it the base model, but I don't, although I would imagine that you could say it is the base model with many of the available options.

It is also interesting to note that they they list the Stingray with the Z51 as a different model as the one without.

I have a 05 coupe with no options. I call it a base coupe. If it had nav, auto, heated seats, and z51 I would call it a loaded coupe. I have a 05 3500 ls ccsb duramax with a couple of options. I call it an optioned duramax.

The "base" Corvette is the "standard" Corvette. As opposed to the more expensive Grand Sports, Z06s, and ZR1s.

I'm calling it the "standard base" from now on.

No one I've ever talked to in the general public knows what a Corvette Coupe is. When I say "base corvette" they immediately know what I'm talking about.
I have used the term base Corvette and not a single person (outside of halfway smart Corvette owners) has known what I am talking about.

Always considered, always? Oh....you mean since 2006. Got it. Must be you didnt know what Corvettes were before then since you have always considered it to be a standard body Corvette coupe with no options.

I agree on the rest. There is a base to each of the others as well.

The words "base Corvette" is a Term made up by people that buy a z06 or zr1 to let all the owners of all non zo6 or zr1 corvetts that their Corvette is BETTER than yours, it's just an ego thing just like..........here we go folks............. a gs is nothing more than the Z51 opted Corvette with 3LT option. It's all about one person thinking they are better than someone else.

All their saying is the corvette sting ray WITH the Z-51 performance package as in OPTION. The Z-51 is not another model it's a option on the sting ray model.

Exactly. Not sure what started the "base" trend. Never heard anyone say "My base 63 split window" or "my base 53 convertible", just that it was a 63 Corvette or a 53 Corvette. But to each their own...

To me there is the C6 (or whatever model for other years), a GS, a Z06 and a ZR1. The phrase "base" seems to somehow put down the less optioned Corvette. Kind of like saying a GS is possing as a Z06... Just wrong to say either... But you get the picture.

The "base" model of any vehicle is the cheapest model of said vehicle.

My 05 has every option except Navigation and an Automatic Transmission. I hardly believe a car with the Z51 option, XM, Bose and Heads Up counts as a base car. I drove plenty with none of these options and feel that I got something better than those cars. The 1SB, 1LT, 2LT, 3LT or any other pkg option regardless of year model indicates to me anyway that the car has different options than one with a lower number. A standard body style (or narrow style) Vette is a different car than a GS, Z06 or a ZR1...its by no means a "base" car to me. You want a base car go by a Kia. A Vette is a Vette and we all share the same passion.
