Default Dash Speaker

Been reading through all the threads I can find
on the dash speaker grille rattle. I have it and
plan to pad it somehow.

Two questions.

1) Is there a TSB on this?

2) Is most everyone disconnecting
the dash speaker?

Thx ahead!

I had the center speaker disconnected when I had new speakers installed. As other members here have said; the separation is improved and having the crappy GM speaker in the mix would defeat the purpose of installing new speakers.

Take it out as it just screws up the sound. It was GM's attempt at equalizing the sound for both the passenger and the driver, but the biggest success of the middle speaker was to screw up the sound stage and eliminate any hope of decent stereo separation.

Ok, here's my idea. What if we
did a speaker grill cover in
reverse?

Get some high grade speaker
grille cloth. Cover the under
side of the speaker grill.
Glue the cloth to the bottom
of the original grill.
Leave cut outs for the clips.

The cloth pads the underside
of the grill and cuts out the
rattle. It also looks good from
the visual side of the grill.

Got this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=260-332

Opinions?

I'm actually considering replacing the center speaker with a Kicker DS35 but I'm not sure it will fit. I sometimes take conference calls in the car on the way to work via Bluetooth, so for me the center speaker serves a good purpose. OP in your search have you found any other option associated with the center speaker besides disconnecting it?

I am sure it is coming from the grill cover
of the speaker. I assume the speaker is locked
into place.

But I hold down the grill cover and the rattle
stops. Let go, rattle returns.

I have not looked at speaker options as I
don't think the speaker is defected.
