Which fuel?

Which fuel?
Here's another thing for me to get neurotic about. I'm a new Vette owner and I was pretty much set on Shell 93 Octane. But there's a couple Conoco stations in town that sell 100% 91 octane gasoline - no ethanol. If it was a garage queen I'm thinking the 100% fuel. But I drive it almost daily so I'm thinking the detergents and additives in the Shell are better in the long run. Thoughts?

I personally try to use Chevron with Techron.
I use whatever the store has for premium.
However, my car runs fine with 87*.
I add s little Marvel's Mystery oil regularly.

Opinion
in the long term but I can not comment on that with any authority whatsoever.

Can't say I agree. It is my understanding from many previous comments on the forum that 87 detunes your engine and decreases power and gas mileage at a minimum. Some say it will damage your valves
in the long term but I can not comment on that with any authority whatsoever.

I usually put in whatever premium is available.
But if I am at a location/state where gas is 5.00 per gallon, 87* will get me back to 3.50 per gallon.
The knock sensors are supposed to adjust for the lesser octane gasoline according to the mechanic at my local Chevy dealer, who I trust.
I just turned 80K and I have been driving my car for 3500 miles per month mostly open highway.
Gas is my least worry. It is the other stuff which keeps breaking.
This weekend, axle shaft. I don't even put my foot into it.

If it were me, I'd use the highest octane available. That's Shell 93, Sunoco 93, Mobil 93. I do change stations often just to mix it up a bit. The only time 87 went in the car was by mistake.

Chevron 91 octane here #1 choice
#2 Arco cheapest in cost for 91 octane
#3 Costco next cheapest in cost for 91 octane.
I have heard Safeway grocery stores sell Chevron gas but I have not tried it yet.

Do an internet search on Top Tier Fuels.. Use one of the brands listed. Chevron & Shell are on the list. Not sure about Conoco.

I got friendly with a supervisor at a Vons [Safeway] gas station a while back. She told me how much that station pumps every month but I did not believe her. She went into the office and brought out a summary of sales for the month...WOW, she was right: close to 800,000 gallons and the month was not over yet! This is a 24/7 station but 800k gallons seems to me to be a whole lot of gas...so much for pumping stale or old gas out of their tanks...to pump that much they must get every other day deliveries!

I stick with Shell, Exxon/Mobil and BP. I wish we had Chevron in this area.
Not to steal the thread but does anyone know what brand of fuel Kroger sells? They give you cents off per gallon based on how many "points" you rack up. You can cash your savings in at Kroger stations and Shell stations.
You would think Kroger sells Shell fuel but does anyone know?

LOL. Use whatever octane your owner's manual says. Here in CO premium is generally 91 octane, which works fine because of the altitude. As for buying a certain brand of gas because it's "better" you guys do know that there are a very limited number of refineries that make the exact same gas for different brand stations, right? Our local paper did a story on this a couple of years ago. They followed tankers that filled up with the exact same gas at the only terminal near here and delivered to all the different gas stations here. Thinking one brand is better because of the sign at the station is pretty funny.
The C6 is a car, and a very reliable one at that. It's not a finicky supercar, it's a car that can be reliably driven daily for many thousands of miles without super frequent oil changes, special brands of gasoline, or many other things lots of owners do.

I normally used Shell 93 octane in all the C5 and C6 I owned. I do know of a Sunoco that sells 94 octane if I'm close by I'll stop in there. Now that I have a 427 using anything but premium seemsnot to be a chose after you open the gas door and see this.

That is the same sticker you placed on the fuel door of your Prius...

I don't know how that translates as to the GM "Tier 1" recommendation. I've looked on the pumps of local stations, both independent and name-brand, and I've never seen a "Tier 1" designation anywhere, so how do we know what meets that spec and what doesn't? I've been using the independent (no-name) gas at a local convenience store, which is inexpensive and has run well in all my vehicles for years. I occasionally fill with a name-brand like Shell or Chevron just to be on the safe side, in case their additive package provides some extra cleaning that might be advantageous.
I also have no problem mixing octane ratings. If I fill with 93 octane I might use 89 the next time when the tank is 1/3 full, in an effort to keep octane at or above 91. I tried some 87 octane once and noticed some hesitation at full throttle, which undoubtedly suggests the knock sensor is pulling back on timing at times. Since then I've been staying with 89 and 93, mostly the latter.

I use 93 octane almost all the time. I used 91 once, on a trip. I purchase the cheapest fuel available that meets the required octane requirements. No problems.

DynoSpeed dyno performance shop says the best gas is BP with Shell as its equal in Memphis. They see misfires and other anomalies on dyno tunes with some other gas in the tanks of performance cars. He says any other gas could have a negative effect on the tune. I have always used Shell 93 or BP but if it's unavailable, I put a minimum amount of the best I can find.
