roof creaking
Can someone describe the noise that is being referred to as "creaking" to me? I seem to be getting a noise that is more of a popping sound, not a squeak and it occurs every now and then, not a constant sound. Are we taalking the same thing?

Many tops will pop. Much has been written on this. It seems to get worse in really hot weather. Lubing the top is generally the first line of defense, replacing hardware and using 0 rings on the latches has helped many members. I lubed mine last Summer and its been very quiet.

Creaking top
I have had a creaking top on my last 2 Vettes.I have become so used to it I don't hear it any more. One day I'll get ticked off and taked the top off and drive it without a top until I decide to get rid of it or it won't start from being soaked. What the el.you can tell how I feel about it. Rod

My 2009 creaks or pops continually. Not continuously, there is a difference. Does it usually with a change of temperature, going from garage to outside, or sitting in shade or sun. I have lubed and greased as people have recommended and I have the new latches that GM said fixed it.
My 92 C4 also did this and I suspect many other years did too.

The best fix for "popping" according to this forum has been the use of 5/32 E clips in the roller ball latch design, I am not certain if the newer latches (2009-2013) still have this available to them. Other than that lube yes definitely and some have said changing the O-ring to a #5 ring has helped, the J rod on the rear safety latch can also be adjusted to help keep it quiet. The April issue of Corvette Magazine has a two page article on page 74 about this issue. Good Luck

Mine rattled when new over rough roads and over 65 mph. The dealer found a cracked rear retention bracket. Now it only

it's more pronounced when it gets cold or sudden changes in temps. New latches are the permanent fix most times. Those clips referred to only work in pre 08 cars because they changed the stuff in 08.I did read about something on here a while back regarding a more serious issue with the body of the car.Missing bolts or something, can't remember exactly.

From another thread...
This eliminated the noisy top on my 09:
About $6 at Ace Hardware.
IMO the top needs routine maintenance. Once a year, clean & lube everything as described [in talon90's post #2]: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...long-post.html
I used Q-tips to apply the lube. Also some clean rags & paper towels. Put the top on soft blankets & carpet for easy access.
A thin film of lube is all you need. Do NOT over-lube: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ships-fix.html

Thin coat of the Super Lube on the rubber Gaskets does the trick,Dab on your finger and spread a thin layer on all the rubber contact surfaces , Worked for me and not a peep since .. Give it a try....

The fix is in.
I have a 2010 so no rollers. My transparent top just started to make noise a few days ago which has not made a peep for the last couple of years.
SOLUTION:
1) I removed the roof and cleaned and wiped down all the rubber with a rubber lube/protector because it "really" needed it.
2) Re-tighten the four studs/pegs with a 15 mm deep socket; they all turned a little bit. The first time that I tighten the studs a few years ago they tighten much more.
3) Removed the two front black OEM rubber O-rings that were now wedged shaped from time and replaced them with greased up fuel injector O-rings that are about the same size but a little thicker and made out of better material.
RESULTS:
The top is completely quiet again.
PS: The transparent top I installed "new" a few years ago made noise at first until I tighten the four studs and then it was fine up to a few days ago. I think the rubber o-rings distorting over time was the clause but snugging up the studs again sure did not hurt.

I did it (only I used two o'rings on each peg - not one - makes the roof a little hard to wrench down but fixed the problem).......
cost less than $2.00
Not sure if this is what you are describing.....I get a POP once in awhile and only with my red top (not the glass one)....and it seems to be the underside. Whatever it is made of pops once in awhile. I can push on it with my hand and make it pop - just aging - that's it and nothing you can do about it IF it is that......
Good Luck!
