Former c5 now c6 owner
Hello, I just got a great deal on a very low mileage (7,200) one owner 2006 coupe loaded with all the goodies, and with Magnetic ride control, which i do not as of yet know a great deal about.
I previously owned a very nice 2000 c5 coupe with some minor mods, (vararam dyno tune B&B exhaust) with 50k that i sold for a very good price.
Im looking forward to the c6, it seems to be a more refined version of my c5, but the ls2 is much more of a smoother and powerful engine overall. I also took a drive with a friends 08 c6 with the 6.2 ls3, and did a little spirited driving, and could not see that much of difference in sotp acceleration between it and my almost (mileage wise) 06. Not as much as the difference between the ls2 and ls1 in my c5.
Couple of questions.
The gentlemen that owned my 06 since new drove it very easy, never in the rain, and stored during Winters (as i do living in the northeast)
One thing that I noticed is the smoother clutch engagement then on the mn6 of my c5, but the clutch on the 06 has little free play at the top, whereas my 00 had some. I was told by a friend that works at a Chevrolet dealership service dept. that sells and services quite a few corvettes, (he took it for a ride) and said the clutch is fine, and that the c6 and c5 clutches sometime had a different feel. Otherwise it shifts great, just probably take a little getting used to.
Lastly (for now) the car has the oem Goodyear runflats which are 7 years old, but under close inspection they have a lot of usable tread (only 7k on them) and no percieveable dry rot. Should I replace them at this time? If i do I will go with the non runflats, or are they still safe to drive on.
I so far, love the c6 and cant wait to enjoy it. Look forward to interacting with the members on the c6 forum, and am sure that i will gain as much knowledge, advice, and opinions and enjoyment as i did on the c5 forums. Thanks in advance, Ken (quick pic for now from my phone)

I too just graduated to the C6 from many years on the C5 platform...
Mine is an 05, and while it is low mile as well (33k) not as low as yours!
One of the biggest things I noticed with my C6 was the clutch engagement points as well...all of my previous C5's, including a Z06 did not feel this way...it actually took me a little while to get used to driving it...I notice the free play you speak of, and sometimes get a sound from the drive train at disengagement where the drive train feels like there is slack...(if that makes sense)
I took it to the shop just to see if it was me or the car, and was told it was me!
Great cars the C6 is...I agree, more refined but still an animal! Do a quick search for "the ranger method" for keeping the clutch fluid clean, I noticed a great difference in clutch feel after cleaning out my dark clutch fluid using this method... DOT 4 only for clutch fluid...
As for the run flats, just make sure they are not dry rotted out and run them as long as you can, I bought my car with "non-run flats" and they are quiet and have great street attitude (Kumho's).
Enjoy that sweet C6!!

C6 vs C5
Congrats on your new ride. I agree on all points except the similarity on the power of a LS2 vs LS3. I feel there is a very noticble power upgrade. You need to be in a higher RPM range than the LS3 to keep up. Just IMO.
Enjoy your new ride be safe.

Congrats and welcome.
As far as tires, if it's in your budget, I'd change them out. Seven years is a long time. Once changed, you can forget about them.

Congrats on the new ride! I agree with you on the LS2/LS3 minor difference. I used to have a '07 with LS2 and then drove an LS3 and my opinion was the same as yours. Before that I had a '04 LS1 and the move to the LS2 was significant.
On the clutch play; check to be sure the return spring on the clutch pedal is there. That spring assures that clutch will be fully engaged should you have your foot slightly resting on the pedal. Some guys like to remove it and maybe the previous owner did. They do brake too.

Congrats on a basically new 06 C6! I would replace the tires with another set of runflats as soon as I could. They are at that age where they may be fine or they may not. Why take the risk? IMO

Great looking car. Tires may or may not be good. Kept myichelins for ten years.
