I've had CDs since they were made available in retail stores like Wal-Mart, and I recall them showing up first in TV infomercials. As I remember, if we "call in the next 10 minutes your price is only $19.95 plus shipping and handling." S&H was $8-10 and I think I paid $10 for two (large and small) at WM around ten years ago. I use my large one on the C6 daily and the small one on my Harley before riding it. I clean it in the clothes washer every few years, as per the instructions. Have never noticed any streaking or other issues.

Need to swing by Wal Mart today and buy one of these. Currently use a detailing spray and microfiber towels to clean the dust off every other day.

Any difference between models? Prices seem to range all over the place.

Over at the car care section there is a bit of concern removing pollen from a car by dusting or using a CA Duster. This is something I read and have no real life experience. I use the duster when my car has a small amount of garage dust. Any more than what "I" consider a small amount and I just wait til the next wash. I also don't like using detail sprays except if the car is really clean and my dust top cover stays in the closet except during a month or 2 in winter because I think I do more damage putting it on and off than the protection it provides.

Heres an example of the pollen talk:

The "Original California Duster" is the good one and has a wood handle.

The cheaper ones either do not say "Original" or have a plastic handle ... I would pass on the cheap imitations.

I've been using the duster for years! They will streak if there is even a little moisture in the air (i.e. slightly overcast mornings along the coast)... I usually only dust it in the afternoon for this reason...

Make sure to get the genuine California Car Duster. There are copies and they are not near as good.

Never ... we have a very high end detail shop in town, and you cannot find one single "duster" anywhere there, and I asked. I used to have one years ago - but now I'll only use "detail" spray and a several microfiber cloths. Plus ONLY on a fully cooled vehicle.

And the guy who said he dusted his tips .... uh that ain't dust down there

Default Anyone else use a "California Duster"?

Haven't wash the vette since last year because I use the California Duster after every drive. Shake it out before using and it does not leave any scratches. Very happy with the product, I have used it for the past 8 years.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/images/smilies/rock.gif

Original is the best.

Does anyone remember the Nanette car duster in the '60s? Very similar to California Duster.

If you know what you're doing and have the common sense to know the difference of what can be dusted off and what needs to be washed off, you're good. If you have something like sand imbedded in the Duster and then press down as you're sweeping the paint then yes, you'll damage the paint. The key is to not even let the weight of the Duster ride on the paint. Use just the tips of the fibers of the Duster as you sweep across.

Been using one for decades, and I tell you never wash it, if you do, time to replace.

The only thing with the pollen,if you dust it daily fine, but do not let the pollen buildup a couple of days or so,in which case the duster will not really be that effective. At least here in the Northeast.

Perhaps it's too new to perform correctly.

It works great on my '13 Torch Red and certainly did on my black '06. They need to be broken in by use. The smudges go away quickly. Just use it lightly, don't press it down in any way, and it does a great job. I've had mine since I bought the '06, used the previous one for years on my Bright Red T/As.

I have two of them in my 09 Atomic Orange vert. One is the large external duster and the second is the smaller interior duster. Use both of them all of the time with no issues. Don't try to wash the duster if you think that it is too dirty. Did it and then disposed of the duster because all of the fibers got all knotted together.

Autozone. Package says it is an original California Duster but it does has the plastic handle, not the wooden one. $14 including tax after the military discount.

The better quality 'Original California Duster' have a wood handle (not plastic) and are made in Korea ... should be called a 'Korean Duster'
And (drum roll) you never see a dusty Korean!

Long ago when I had a C3 I would use a dry cotton towel but that left fine scratches and just pushed around the dust. solved that problem by making the towel slightly damp but still left fine scratches. then I discovered the CCD. Use mine all the time now on my C6. I'm on my second one since 1981.(first one finally fell apart) You are all correct, the older and dirtier it is the better it works. Cleans up pollen and dust great. I use it every time I pull it out of the garage and before a spray wax detail. When it was new and the wax would transfer to the car I would use a genuine shammy cloth afterward to clean up the streaks. That took care of that issue perfectly.
